Today, 2017 September 8, one year after its ratification, the BWM Convention is finally IN FORCE.
The convention stipulates and requires two standards for discharged ballast water. The D-1 standard covers ballast water exchange while the D-2 standard covers ballast water treatment.
Every ship affected by the BWM Convention must have an International Ballast Water Management Certificate and a Ballast Water Management Plan (BWMP) approved.
