Falling BDI and squeezed Wets raises eyebrows…

John Faraclas

The BDI (Baltic Dry Index) lost another dozen of points earlier on today and now stands at 1,534 points. Geopolitics remain crucial in all fronts; John Faraclas’ daily briefing:

The Capers’ BCI was down three points at 3,217…

The Panamaxes lost 19 with the BPI now reads 1,498…

The Supras’ BSI was also down 19 points at 1,081, and…

The Handies’ BHSI a minimal minus two, now standing at 685 points.

All in all a fall but not to the extent in raising alarming calls, but it does raises eyebrows! Ae we going to see the BDI at 1,600 by the end of the year….? we are wondering as same is still 713 points below the 2,247 points of the 31st of December 2103; will this level be surpassed? Time will tell. One thing is for sure: this last four year period proved detrimental for the dry Markets with many companies gone busted and more will follow suite… Do not “feel” comfortable with the percentages you read that same are on the rise – particularly after last year’s 10th of Feb 290 points…

The Wets with mixed feelings and a bit squeezed; the last published BDTI (Dirties) and BCTI (Cleans) stood at 914 minus six, and 524 plus eight respectively. Caution here too

The WTI is on a dangerous upwards trend; as these lines ae being written we stand at US$ 54.05 – it was also earlier on at US$ 54.12… Ultra caution…

The Geopolitical situation worsens not just in all fronts, but all over Planet Ocean. Expect the unexpected.

The Migrants still on top; the ending of the second phase with ISIS in Syria and Iraq is a fact but equally phase thee begins now – a very crucial period ahead which might affect shipping.

Turkey still in a mess and scandals might become crucial for president Erdogan’s future… The Kurdish and other issues are surfacing, other issues re-surfacing and the end is nigh!

Greece still tries to find a direction but there isn’t as yet a leader in the horizon to push ahead with total reforms…and save the country…

BREXIT still makes waves; our view is that with or without a deal the United Kingdom will make it; the ball is in Europes’ courtyard… Fake news and propaganda are to the fore…
