ANCHORAGE TO CLOSE DUE TO ADVERSE WEATHER

For approximately 3 months, dredging operations will be carried out at Ma Wan Chung within the area bounded by straight lines joining the following co-ordinates (WGS 84 Datum) from (A) to (G) and the adjacent shorelines:
(A) 22 deg. 17.128’N / 113 deg. 56.114’E
(B) 22 deg. 17.105’N / 113 deg. 56.114’E
(C) 22 deg. 17.105’N / 113 deg. 56.099’E
(D) 22 deg. 17.092’N / 113 deg. 56.089’E
(E) 22 deg. 17.091’N / 113 deg. 56.023’E
(F) 22 deg. 17.165’N / 113 deg. 56.023’E
(G) 22 deg. 17.165’N / 113 deg. 56.083’E
The works will be carried out by a flotilla of vessels including two bucket pontoons, one backhoe pontoon, one derrick lighter and one split hopper barge. Two tugboats and one work boat will provide assistance. The number of vessels engaged in the works will change from time to time to suit operational requirements.
The dredged materials will be conveyed to a split hopper barge anchored within the area bounded by straight lines joining the following co-ordinates (WGS 84 Datum) from (H) to (K):

(H) 22 deg. 16.964’N / 113 deg. 53.294’E
(I) 22 deg. 16.876’N / 113 deg. 53.361’E
(J) 22 deg. 16.813’N / 113 deg. 53.266’E
(K) 22 deg. 16.902’N / 113 deg. 53.198’E
Transshipment of dredged materials will take place in the above Transshipment Area. A bucket pontoon assisted by a tugboat will deliver the dredged materials to the split hopper barge from time to time.
A working area of approximately 15 metres will be established around each backhoe pontoon and the derrick lighter. Yellow marker buoys fitted with yellow flashing lights will be laid to mark the positions of the anchors extending from these vessels.
The hours of work will be from 0800 to 1900 hours. No works will be carried out on Sundays and public holidays. Vessels employed for the works will stay in the works area outside the hours of work.
Vessels engaged in the operations will display signals as prescribed in international and local regulations.
Vessels navigating in the vicinity should proceed with caution.

Anchorage to close due to adverse weather

Due to forecast high winds and swell conditions at Port Kembla, the anchorage will be closed to shipping from 1600 hours local time tomorrow (Friday 11 May), with vessels instructed to return back to sea.
The port presently remains open to shipping movements and cargo operations with restrictions. Masters of vessels alongside must ensure all adequate precautions have been made for securing their vessels for the weather conditions expected. This may include, but not limited to:
- extra lines,
- anchors ready for letting go or lowered to the seabed if considered necessary,
- ramp positioning for PCCs and
- requiring tugs on standby at the discretion of the Master, and without waiting for instruction from the Port Kembla VTIC or Harbour Master.
