U.S. Customs: New electronic in-bond requirements
Wednesday, July 4, 2018, United States
Since 2 July 2018, CBP (Customs & Border Protection) no longer accept paper in-bond (7512). Electronic reporting for all in-bond transactions will become mandatory on 6 August 2018.
For the meantime, paper forms or alternatives such as screen prints or plain paper documents are acceptable as part of enforcement processes at the border or verification/audit operations such as warehouse withdrawals, FTZ exports and transfers or vessel/aircraft supply operations where additional information is required on paper forms that is not provided for electronically.
When electronic reporting becomes mandatory on 6 August, the CBP will no longer accept paper copies to perform arrival and export functionality. At the same time, electronic reporting of the bonded cargo location FIRMS code will also become mandatory.
The reporting of the 6-digit Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) number will also be required, though this is not yet enforced. To avoid delays, it should be provided.
GAC North America – Logistics has been filing electronic in-bonds since 2015.
