Restrictions during monsoon period
Mumbai Port Trust has advised that no ‘cold moves’ (movements of dumb
barges) which require port pilots and tug services will be permitted during
the monsoon period (1 June to 15 September 2013). The only exception, for
small dumb barges and small craft only, is when there is a definite lull
when the port and harbour experience flat calm seas and no rain.
Further, from 1 June, all vessels berthing at 19, 20 & 21 HW will have a
draft restriction of 8.5 metres maximum since vessels will be berthed
starboard side alongside. Berthing at 18 HW may be portside alongside
depending on weather and tidal conditions. No immobilisation will be
allowed during the entire monsoon period. Maximum permissible drafts at all
berths will drop once the monsoon rains commence and will continue to be
restricted as required. The maximum docking draft at Indira Dock inside
berths will be 30 feet (9.15 m) and sailing draft of 28’10” (8.80 m)
subject to tidal conditions.
Finally, from 1 June until 30 September, Indira Dock Strom Gate will be
closed three hours before high water and will open one hour after high
water.

Tariffs to increase by 3%
Port Kembla Operations P/L has advised that a 3% increase to Tonnage Dues
(navigation), wharfage, utilities and site occupancy will come into effect
from 1 July.
Port Kembla Operations is presently under trust until the new owners, NSW
Ports Operations, take over the port 1 July.
Pilotage and bunker/oil inspection will remain under Port Kembla Port Corp.
A notification of an increase, also expected to be around 3% and effective
from 1 June, is awaited.

Suspension of cargo operations extended
The suspension of cargo operations at Genoa’s tanker port (MULTEDO
TERMINAL) has been extended until 1400 hours today (9 May).
Operations were halted yesterday morning after a cargo ship collided with
the port’s control tower building late on Tuesday night. Seven people have
now been reported dead and three are still missing.
