Your Transformation Update from Fathom World – 9 Dec 2019
Hello and welcome to the week’s Transformation,
There’s a unique project looking to form deep sea shipping’s CO2 emissions into frozen projectiles that can be dropped from the ship and into deep ocean seafloor sediment that grabbed my interest this week. It is one of those ideas that could turn out to be the flettner-rotor or under hull air-lubrication idea of the coming years; disregarded at first but now a significant part of our technology arsenal.
Yes, there will be challenges, both with the technology and the regulatory compliance, but from a Fathom World perspective it shows how we as an industry are willing to look out of the box for our transformation.
Brian Dixon has two stories for you this week. On the one hand he looks at the growth of IT solutions across ports and terminals, and then at new cybersecurity for ports guidelines that have been published. Samantha Fisk has taken a peep at the growing relationship between start-ups and the existing maritime tech giants.
Happy reading and have a great week,
