Three M’s cause global chaos – Markets, Migrants and Medical issues
The Shipping Markets remain low under with the BDI under the 600 points threshold. Migrants cause havoc in both side of the Atlantic and Medical issues – such as Coronavirus cause panic and chaos. John Faraclas brief daily and Weekly Recap:
The BDI managed to clinch six points and now stands at 535 which is 38 points plus since last Friday the 2st of February when same stood at 497 points, “breaking” the 500 points threshold.
The Capes despite some “ups” saw the BCI down 28 points and now standing at minus 328. Last Friday the BCI stood at 226 which means further 101 points lost… Wonder what’s next for the Capes…
The Panamaxes BPI did …well by gaining 19 points and going over and above the 900 (and 800 too) points threshold at 905! Last week the BPI stood at 787 which means a total of 118 where favourably added…
Good pickings for the Supras; the BSI was up 16 points and now reads 606 gaining the 600 points threshold. Last week same stood at 524, that’s up 82!
Plus points for the Handies even on a single digit level – plus two for the BHSI and plus 20 since last week.
So all in all still a bad market. We reiterate the view that firstly we must see the BDI above the 1,500 mark and then we can talk!!!
The Wets with mixed feelings; the last published BDTI (Dirties) and BCTI (Cleans) stood at 796 – down ten and 652 – up six points respectively. The weekly difference though was substantial as the Dirties lost 69 points – from 865 and the Cleans 37 – from 689 respectively on the 21st of February 2020!!!
The WTI nosediving at US$ 44.76 was monumental… Yesterday same stood at US$ 47.09 – down US$ 2.33!!! The weekly loss was US$ 8.62 from US$ 53.38 last Friday 21/FEB/2020!!! We love to see this fall as despite the fall of all stock Markets wiping out trillions of USDollars from stock, bonds and shares, this low oil helps the poor, being the 95 centum of Planet Ocean’s population.
Did I hear you say Coronavirus? Very simply we go with the view that same cannot be stopped, it might probably be slowed and possibly, contained…but… Ultra-CAUTION should be observed. The entire Shipping Industry will be severely hit…
The other big M the MIGRANTS for which we believed, believe and will continue to believe is the Planet Ocean’s pandemic and most important issue, gave us earthquakes and tsunamis of 8 of the Richter Scale and waves up to 20 meters proved the hypocrisy of the politicians and their cronies with Turkish president Erdogan becoming the champion of blackmail and about to let thousands to come over to Europe whilst the entire European Union continues to keep a blind eye. Events until this moment direct us that the Turks will do everything possible to create a mess to Greece and conversely all over Europe and the entire Middle East. We have very bold expressed our view on what happened to Greece’s a couple of days ago… Shame… Expect more mess…
At the other side of the Atlantic between the USA and Mexico too the bridge linking Ciudad Juárez to El Passo in Texas was about to close… Another big mess there involving the judiciary too… The MIGRANTS there making waves too!!
On another tone and note the ISALOS event took place at a full house in London’s Hellenic Centre with very interesting speakers, moderators and interpannel questions. It was a great event, BUT WE NEED to have more questions from the audience, as only three were aired. We need to see the students too to have their say! Also more women in the panels!!!! As said, all in all a great and timely event given also its title: Go Maritime, A New Decade, New Perspectives. The event was in collaboration with the GSCC, sponsored by TOTOTHEO maritime and under the auspices of INTERCARGO and the HESGB; supported by WFW and Seabright.
