On 4th April 2022 WISTA UK spoke at the Maritime Joint Informal Meeting on an invite by the Honourable Company of Master Mariners on board the HQS Wellington on Thames off Temple – a place of reference for international shipping given the unique events that take on board this floating monument.
WISTA UK President Monica Kohli spoke of her personal journey of sailing with her father on board bulkers for the first 5 years of her life and wanting to be a Merchant Navy officer but not seeing any female seafarers, and thus not fulfilling her dream and her deeply special connection to WISTA UK. She spoke about the origins of WISTA and what they are currently doing. A more touching power point / slides presentation with pictures from another era!

Sue Terpilowski OBE, Former President and currently Membership Secretary of WISTA UK spoke about the first women in Maritime Day, the antecedents and the low numbers of female seafarers across Planet Ocean. She called upon us all to use the RESET button and look at the Women in Maritime Day to review our hiring policies and inherent biases and just have a check every year on what each one of us can do to bring Diversity to the heart of Maritime.

WISTA promotes diversity in the Maritime, Trading and Logistics centre and empowers Women to lead through their unique perspectives.

Good to see some old friends including Lt Cdr Les Chapman CMMar FNI RN, Master 2021, IMO’s Media and Communications Head, Natasha Brown, the ever present Steve Cameron and many others.
