Reminder invitation to LSLC event: The New Anatomy of Maritime Legal Services – 26.09.23 at Norton Rose Fulbright

by admin
The Centre in association with Norton Rose Fulbright, Stolt- Nielsen and the LSLC/YMP invites members and other commercial professionals to attend this 1st hybrid event in its autumn 2023 programme
The New Anatomy of Maritime Legal Services: collaboration, innovation and the “more for less” conundrum.

Introduction
Although some substantive legal points will be referred to, this  round-table discussion will primarily focus on how the  effectiveness of the machinery for delivering legal advice to the maritime sector could be improved. In that connection, there is plenty to be optimistic about!

To facilitate a well rounded inquiry, we are delighted that lawyers with very different – but equally important – roles  in the provision of legal advice to the international shipping community have accepted our invitation to take part.

The conversation will take place against the backcloth of the horrors of war, major geopolitical tensions and the continuing turbulence in the world economy.

Specific Issues for discussion:

  • The emerging commercial issues which the maritime sector is facing and their implications for lawyers
  • The pervasive implications of ESG
  • How effective collaboration and innovation can help meet (and as importantly demonstrate) the commercial imperative of “value for money”
  • Effective training in maritime legal practice
  • Changing places? Crossing to the Dark Side. Some candid advice for when considering moving from a law firm or a Barristers’ Chambers to being an employed lawyer in business
  • Long term effects of the pandemic on legal working practices
  • Is the  perception  in any way correct that members of the Bar, and Arbitrators are  resistant to change?
  • Latest developments  in ethics and regulation
