Yesterday, IMA (the Indian Maritime Association) in the UK celebrated its 40th anniversary. The festivities took place at the International Maritime Organization’s HQ on the River Thames, in London.
IMA UK President – also president of WISTA UK, Monica Kohli, greeted attendees and introduced the speakers; Dr Jose Matheickal (Director, Technical Cooperation and Implementation Division, IMO), Cdre Samee Pote (Naval Advisor at the High Commission of India), Akshay Misra (Vice-Chair IMA UK) as well as Deborah Layde (The Seafarers’ Charity) and Neale Rodrigues (The Mission to Seafarers).
Speakers addressed topics including the significance and future of India within the maritime sector, the crucial role played by seafarers all around the world; and the importance of women in the maritime industry.
We spotted Nicola Good from Lloyd’s Register, Richard Moir from Harod Associates, Dr. Abdul Rahim from ClassNK, Maria Dixon, Gina Panayiotou Founder & CEO, Oceans Arena, Mia Takemoto from Amemiya Law Office, Rohan Janardhanan from Rex Legalis, Jucilla Walters from Waves Group, Mathilde Bittaudeu from WISTA UK and made also new friends. A good turn out given the tube strike and weather!
Excellent as always Indian Cuisine, nine different main dishes and lovely salads. Cool white wines, tranquil fruity reds and soft drinks, interesting networking and a good mentioning also for IRS (Indian Registry of Shipping) which coincidentally had its 50th Anniversary.
