As the Founder of the Greek International Women Awards, it is with great excitement that I announce the opening of applications for this year’s edition. The journey of building a stronger, more inclusive shipping industry is a personal mission for me, and these awards stand as a testament to the incredible women whose contributions continue to shape the future of the industry. But more than just recognizing achievements, this year’s awards are about inspiring one another, reflecting on our progress, taking action and finding the motivation we need now more than ever.

Women in shipping—whether as leaders, innovators, or changemakers—have always faced unique challenges. Shipping, traditionally a male-dominated industry, is evolving, and the role of women is becoming more significant by the day. However, as we work to break down barriers and advance our careers, we must acknowledge that the journey is rarely linear. We all go through our ups and downs, moments of doubt, and instances when it feels like now might not be the right time for us to step forward.

But this is exactly why the time to act is now.

The industry, like many others, is going through tremendous transformation—especially in light of the ongoing decarbonization challenges. The future of shipping demands innovation, resilience, and a commitment to sustainability. Women in the industry are uniquely positioned to provide the creative solutions and leadership that will drive us forward into a greener, more sustainable future. We cannot afford to wait for a “perfect moment” to step up; the moment is now, and we need to support each other in finding that strength.

The Greek International Women Awards are a platform that not only honors the achievements of women in shipping but also serves as a catalyst for further growth and empowerment. The awards are open to women from every sector of the industry—whether in leadership, engineering, logistics, research, sustainability, or any other vital role. This is your opportunity to be recognized for your work, your dedication, and your contribution to shaping a better future for the industry.

But beyond the individual recognition, the awards also serve a broader purpose. They are about building a community of women who motivate, inspire, and mirror each other. By participating in these awards, you are not only showcasing your own journey but also helping to create an ecosystem of shared experiences and collective growth. As we lift each other up, we push forward the industry as a whole.

In times of uncertainty and transformation, such as the one we are experiencing with decarbonization and the ever-evolving shipping landscape, it is essential that we motivate one another to keep moving forward. When we feel like we’re at a crossroads, surrounded by challenges and obstacles, it is crucial to remember that the recognition we receive today might be the inspiration someone else needs tomorrow.

zWe are all leaders in our own right, and it is time for us to come together, support each other, and continue to push the boundaries of what is possible.

So, I encourage every woman in shipping to consider applying for the awards, not just for recognition, but as an act of self-reflection and empowerment. Now is the time to make your voice heard. Together, we can help redefine the future of shipping.

Let’s not wait for the “perfect moment.” Let’s seize this one.
