During the scheduled UN Assembly in New York City this week, AHEPA Leadership attended the “Oli Mazi,” Luncheon – a collaborative event co-hosted by AHEPA and numerous additional Greek American organizations welcoming Prime Minister of the Hellenic Republic, Kyriakos Mitsotakis to the U.S.
Representing AHEPA on this monumental occasion were Supreme President E. Chris Kaitson, Supreme Vice President Dr. Zenon Christodoulou, Supreme Secretary Themistocles Frangos, Supreme Counselor Theodore Stamas, Supreme Governor Asteris Fanikos, BOT Chairman Nicholas A. Karacostas, PSP, Esq., BOT Vice Chairman Savas Tsivicos, PSP, Sons of Pericles Supreme President George Kalyvas and Maids of Athena Grand President Cristina Saavedra-Mamounis.
During the event’s proceedings, Prime Minister Mitsotakis awarded six individuals the “Order of Phoenix,” an incredible honor representing one of the Hellenic Republic’s highest civilian honors. These recipients received the award for their service and support of Greece, specifically through their contributions to the enhancement of Greece’s international prestige working with the Greek American diaspora.
Following the awards ceremony and subsequent remarks, Supreme President Kaitson spoke with the Prime Minister regarding his and his delegation’s upcoming trip to Greece in October, making arrangements for a meeting while in Athens. Additionally, the Supreme President highlighted our MRI machine donation to the AHEPA Hospital in Thessaloniki, our current $3.3 million annual scholarship awarding and the continued success of the AHEPA Journey to Greece Program.
“The luncheon was an incredible success and an absolute honor,” said Kaitson, “We wish the Prime Minister all the best for the week ahead during the UN Assembly, and look forward to working with his Government to enhance the lives of all Greek Americans.”
