The companies have scheduled an additional departure to meet the expected demand for passengers and road freight between July 15 and September 18.

During this period, shipping companies will offer connections to the archipelago on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
Baleària and Fred. Olsen Express are increasing their service on the route between Huelva and the Canary Islands with the addition of a fourth weekly connection between the port of Huelva and Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Between July 15 and September 18, the shipping companies are offering an additional departure to their usual three to meet the expected high demand for both passengers and road freight transport between the Canary Islands and the Peninsula during this summer period.

The route is operated by the Sicilia ferry , with capacity for 1,000 passengers and 400 vehicles, and the Marie Curie ferry , which can accommodate more than 800 passengers and 600 vehicles. Since July 15, departures from Huelva have been offered on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Santa Cruz de Tenerife, with the exception of the Wednesday service, which only connects to Tenerife. Meanwhile, there is one departure from the islands on Sundays and Mondays, and two on Thursdays from Tenerife.

Fred. Olsen Express Fleet Manager Juan Ignacio Liaño notes that “in 2024, this fourth additional weekly trip allowed us to meet the high demand during the summer period, so this year we are adding this route again to adapt to the needs of passengers on our connection to the Peninsula.”

For his part, Baleària’s general manager, Georges Bassoul, emphasizes that “the addition of a fourth weekly service also responds to the increased demand for freight transport in the Canary Islands, a very important market for Baleària.”

Six years of strategic alliance to connect the Peninsula and the Canary Islands from Huelva
The service between the Iberian Peninsula and the Canary Islands, operated by Baleària and Fred. Olsen Express for more than six years, demonstrates this strategic alliance for the maritime connection between the islands and the Iberian Peninsula. Since its inception, the connection has transported more than two million linear meters of cargo and nearly 250,000 passengers between Huelva and the Canary Islands, consolidating a key route for freight transport. Among the services offered by the two ships that serve this route are cabins, catering, and pet services.
