Following its sold-out world premiere at the Central Scotland Documentary Festival last Thursday, David Wilkinson’s film The Marbles, about the reunification of the Parthenon Marbles, opens in UK theatres on Friday, November 7.

The highly anticipated documentary, featuring Dame Janet Suzman and Brian Cox among others, will be showing in cinemas across London and the UK through January. Screening locations include the Garden Cinema in Covent Garden — within close distance of the British Museum, where the Parthenon Marbles removed by Lord Elgin 200 years ago are still held to this day.

A preview held on November 6 at the Everyman Cinema in Barnet was followed by a Q&A with the director, as will the opening-night screening at the Genesis Cinema in Bethnal Green. Two midday London screenings followed by a Q&A with David Wilkinson over the weekend are sold out, with a third added for later on Sunday afternoon.

The film has received mostly four- and five-star reviews, including an enthusiastic write-up from The Guardian.
