Spin-off: Clyde & Co’s Hamburg office goes independent as NoordenJones with close to 30 professionals

Hamburg, April/May 2026The entire partnership of Clyde & Co’s Hamburg office, together with almost the entire team, is leaving the firm and founding the independent law firm NoordenJones Partnerschaft von Rechtsanwälten und Solicitors mbB (NoordenJones) on 1 May 2026. This marks one of the largest spin-offs in recent years in the German legal market, affecting almost the entire Hamburg office of Clyde & Co. NoordenJones will be an independent, internationally oriented commercial law firm with a particular focus on the transport, insurance & reinsurance, energy & infrastructure and private wealth sectors.

The partnership consists of Dr Clemens Hillmer (55), Dr Eckehard Volz (53), Dr Volker Lücke (51), Dr Tim Schommer (51), Daniel Jones (51) and Dr Stefan Ullrich (45), as well as the newly admitted partners Rory Duncan (40), Jakob Haas (38) and Anna-Sophie Waldmann (37), currently Counsels at Clyde & Co.

NoordenJones is based in Hamburg and advises clients on German and English law. The firm acts for a wide range of clients both nationally and internationally and draws on a network of independent law firms in key jurisdictions that has grown over decades.

In the transport, insurance & reinsurance, energy & infrastructure and private wealth sectors, NoordenJones provides advice in the areas of banking & finance, corporate/M&A, commercial, construction, dispute resolution (arbitration & litigation), regulatory, restructuring & insolvency, and trade & commodities. The firm continues to place particular emphasis on complex domestic and cross-border matters. The client base includes, amongst others, large and medium-sized shipping companies and logistics firms, shipyards, insurers, reinsurers and insurance brokers, banks and investors, contractors and developers of energy and infrastructure projects, as well as construction companies. In addition, NoordenJones advises entrepreneurs, high-net-worth individuals and family offices.

In addition to welcoming the next generation of partners and promoting further lawyers, NoordenJones has already recruited its first additional lawyers at its Hamburg office as part of the firm’s founding and plans further targeted expansion in the firm’s core practice areas.

The Hamburg-based partnership comments on the move as follows: “We have been advising many of our clients for over 20 years. With NoordenJones, we are creating an independent platform that enables us to provide even more entrepreneurial, flexible and international advice – particularly on complex cross-border matters. Alongside our German law capabilities, our strong English team provides comprehensive advice on English law, and for international matters we draw flexibly on our network, which has grown over many years.”
