Renowned shipping and logistics strategy course Blue MBA appoints Mikkel Hansen as Ambassador to enhance links with maritime cluster businesses

Mikkel Hansen, chief executive of the Maritime Development Centre of Europe (MDCE), the Danish maritime cluster organization, has been appointed Ambassador representing the maritime cluster, for the world-renowned Blue MBA – the Executive MBA in Shipping & Logistics programme at Copenhagen Business School.

At MDCE Mr Hansen leads initiatives and projects, encouraging exchange of information, supporting research and innovation, networking and business-2-business opportunities as well as supporting new maritime entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized businesses.

Among his extensive qualifications, Mr Hansen is a master mariner and a graduate of the Blue MBA (Class of 2005), which is a specially-structured part-time degree course for senior executives.

Mr Hansen is the seventh person to be appointed a Blue MBA Ambassador, formally joining a team which reinforces the standing of the Blue MBA in global regions and in a series of specialities. The Ambassadors set out to raise awareness of the degree programme’s mission to develop the strategic capabilities of management in the maritime and associated industries. They serve as leaders and liaison contacts for alumni and participants of the programme.

Irene Rosberg, programme director for the Blue MBA, said: ”Mikkel is ideally suited to enhance our relationships with the maritime cluster, which includes in many countries specialist firms supplying goods, equipment and services to shipping and logistics operators. The suppliers rely on the operators to survive, and the operators need efficient suppliers to enable them to run their businesses effectively.

“Mikkel has substantial experience with leading companies in shipping, at sea and ashore, which means he can communicate with and understand the needs of people throughout the industry. We are proud to have him as one of our graduates.”

Ms Robserg added: ”Our fundamental aim is to take management education in shipping and associated industries to the highest levels, and Mikkel and our other Ambassadors lend focused support to this purpose.

Mikkel Brønnum Hansen worked his way up from being an able seaman on ferries, to deck officer on containerships and gas tankers for AP Møller Maersk, spending a further five years in that group at Maersk Line and Maersk Technical, including time as head of cadet administration. He then became director of crew operations for Maersk Ship Management, and head of Maersk Crew Management in the Philippines.

A move to Green-Jakobsen AS was followed by human relations posts at Nordic Tankers and then Ultranav. Among his duties were negotiating fleet agreements with the International Transport Workers’ Federation and other crew matters.

Ms Rosberg said: “While we are aware that all our graduates gladly spread the word about the merits of the Blue MBA, the formal appointment of MBA Ambassadors gives added impetus to our appeal to senior management in the global regions and within many designated specialities.”

Since 2001, the Blue MBA, which has accreditations from top educational bodies, has graduated 200 executives from 45 countries.
