danelec logo(Birkeroed, Denmark – Nov. 24, 2015) – (Marine NewsWire) Danelec Marine today announced that DNV GL has awarded a type approval certificate with EU Wheelmark designation for the new DM800 ECDIS G2 series Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS). The DNV GL approval certifies that the new DM800 ECDIS complies with all provisions of the IMO A.694(17), MSC.191(79) and MSC.232(82) regulations.

The DM800 ECDIS G2 incorporates totally new Linux-based application software, an intuitive easy-to-learn user interface, industry-leading cartography solutions, ruggedized low-power LED display monitors and Danelec’s exclusive SoftWare Advanced Protection (SWAP) technology for shipboard service.

Danelec Marine also announced that it will provide a free upgrade for existing DM800 G1 series ECDIS products to the new type-approved DM800 ECDIS G2, as well as a free software upgrade for all DM800 ECDIS G2 products to meet the new IEC 61174, IHO 52 and IHO 64 ECDIS performance standards. All new and existing ECDIS products must be in compliance with the new IEC and IHO standards by August 2016, according to Hans Ottosen, CEO of Danelec Marine, who notes that there is no provision for “grandfathering” installed ECDIS products already type-approved to the old standard.

“We are offering free upgrades for all installed DM800 ECDIS G1 and G2 systems, to give our customers a quick and easy pathway to the latest technology, ” said Ottosen. “In addition, our new type-approved DM800 ECDIS G2 platform will enable future software upgrades to be made by the crew aboard ship. It’s all part of our strategy to provide an integrated product-service solution that is unprecedented in the maritime industry.”

Ottosen added that Danelec Marine is developing a full suite of training packages for crew familiarization with the new ECDIS platform.

Danelec Marine has published a White Paper explaining the changes in the new ECDIS performance standard. These new requirements were adopted to provide improved functionality; safer navigation; enhanced cyber security; standardization of displays, vocabulary and operation; reduced training needs; and smoother integration with other bridge systems. Copies of the ECDIS White Paper are available for free download at www.danelec-marine.com/news/white-paper-on-new-ecdis-standards.aspx.
