Refresher Training Booklet 2013

The Hellenic Marine Environment Protection Association-HELMEPA, as a “Maritime Training Center for Pollution Prevention, Safety at Sea and Environmental Awareness” certified by Germanischer-Lloyd (GL) according to ISO 9001:2008, commenced its 2013 Voluntary Refresher Training Program on Tuesday, 22 January at its headquarters. The updated Program maintains the Association’s focus on the human element, HELMEPA’s primary mission since its inception in 1982. Indeed, the program kicked off with the designated course on “Safe Working Practices on Board”. For the second consecutive year, the Program curriculum was devised in close consultation between the Association’s Maritime Section and a group of experts who form the Training Committee and represent 11 of HELMEPA’s member managing companies.

The 26 topics of the Program, pertinent to the ship’s environmentally sound and safe operation, are to be presented over twenty 2-day seminars to officers and shore-based staff. More specifically, the seminars are divided into the following three categories:

  1. Safe working practices on board
  2. Strengthening Pollution Prevention Competence
  3. Marine Environmental Awareness (MEA)

The MEA seminar was developed by the Maritime Section according to IMO’s “model course”, as required by the amended International Convention STCW.
