Ince & Co Celebrates 20th Anniversary in Piraeus

by admin

incecoJune 6, 2013 – International law firm Ince & Co is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the opening of its Piraeus office.

Ince opened its Piraeus office in 1993. It was the firm’s third office outside the UK, in an international network now spanning 11 offices.

The Piraeus office has firmly established itself in the maritime and commercial community of Greece by providing advice on English law and by developing an experienced team to advise on Greek law. The office advises clients across the core business areas of shipping, insurance and ship finance, and represents clients in the Greek Courts on Greek law disputes.

“We have been committed to Greece for many years, and through that time we believe we have adapted to the market and grown our practice in response to clients’ needs, ” Jonathan Elvey, head of Ince & Co’s Piraeus office, comments. “Greek shipping remains vital to the nation and to world shipping. Despite the current economic climate, it has adapted consistently to market conditions, seeking out growth and opportunity.”

“We are very proud of the office’s status and reputation, ” Elvey added. “We greatly appreciate the support and loyalty of our clients over the years and we will continue to support them with the best legal services we can provide.”

From its beginnings with one lawyer, Ince Piraeus now has a team of 35. The current team includes seven partners, including Evangelos Catsambas, who became a partner in April, and Jamila Khan who has joined the team from London. They both have close links with the Greek shipping industry. The team also includes a casualty specialist and ten other lawyers.

The team is recognised by Chambers Europe and the Legal 500 for its leading reputation in shipping work and is highly regarded throughout the market for its ship finance capabilities. Recent work includes success in the London High Court on a major case of piracy and offhire, acting for several prominent operators on substantial charterparty defaults, advising owners on restructurings with banks, acting for shipbuilders on credit arrangements, and dealing with major casualties, pollution cases, cabotage, shipbuilding and aviation issues worldwide, as well as the biggest-ever energy project in Greece. The Piraeus office represents a wide spread of shipowners, P&I Clubs, banks and insurers, as well as major foreign investors in Greece and a number of Greek enterprises.
