Canal locks strike update (9 August 2013)

Kiel Canal will be back in operation from 1400 hours on Sunday (11 August)
most probably until
0600 hours on Wednesday 14 August.

As per verbal information received, the labour union has announced that a
further strike will staged at Kiel-Holtenau from 14 to 16 August 16th, and
at Brunsbuttel on 15 & 16 August.

Construction of sea water intake structure

Works to construct a sea water intake off Jurong Island will be carried out
off Jurong Island from 12 August to 30 September.

According to the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore’s Port Marine
Notice No.108 of 2013, the works will be conducted 24 hours daily –
including Sundays & Public Holidays – within the working area bounded by
the following coordinates (WGS 84 Datum):
1) 01° 15.285’N / 103° 39.635’E
2) 01° 15.248’N / 103° 39.652’E
3) 01° 15.211’N / 103° 39.574’E
4) 01° 15.249’N / 103° 39.559’E

The construction of the sea water intake structure will entail dredging
works, installation of piles, the removal of existing revetment and the
reinstatement works on the revetment.

A safety boat will be deployed to warn other craft of the working area.

These craft will exhibit the appropriate local and international day and
night signals.

When in the vicinity of the working area, mariners are reminded to:
(a) Keep well clear and not to enter the working area;
(b) Maintain a proper lookout;
(c) Proceed at a safe speed & navigate with caution;
(d) Maintain a listening watch on VHF channel 22 (Jurong Control);
and
(e) Communicate with Jurong Control on VHF 22 for assistance, if required.
