The twelfth and final stop in HELMEPA’s Marine Environment and Sciences Awareness Campaign will be the city of Chalkis. By the end of its stay there, the Campaign will have been implemented across a total of 12 cities throughout the country with the support of Lloyd’s Register Foundation (the Foundation).
The Municipality of the city of Chalkis has placed the activities of the Campaign, to take place between 6 and 15 May 2014, under its auspices. These activities will include a mobile environmental Exhibition for students, a Workshop for teachers, beach clean-ups and other volunteer pursuits in collaboration with local stakeholders.
The environmental Exhibition themed “The Marine Environment, Shipping and Sciences” will be kindly housed in the Municipality’s “Asteria” Exhibition Complex, which lines the shores of the city.
In cooperation with the Directorates of Primary and Secondary Education in Euboea (Departments of Schools’ Activities), 1, 000 students from Primary and High Schools in and around the city will be shuttled to and from the Exhibition, with costs covered by the program. Furthermore, on Tuesday, 6 May and at 3pm, a Workshop titled “Environmental Education and Protecting the Marine Environment” will be held in the “Aura” Room within the Exhibition Complex.
Moreover, a volunteer beach clean-up as well as other awareness-raising endeavours have been scheduled in collaboration with both local stakeholders and schools within the framework of European Cleanup Day, the activities of which HELMEPA will be coordinating across Greece on Saturday, 10 May.
