Birkeroed, Denmark – May 29, 2014 – (Marine NewsWire) Danelec Marine, a leading supplier of marine Voyage Data Recorders (VDRs), today announced that it has received significant VDR retrofit orders from its distributors in Italy and the Netherlands.
Telemar SpA has taken orders for 11 Danelec DM400 VDRs from Italian shipowner Tirrenia, replacing the existing VDRs on its fleet of passenger and cargo ships’ operating on routes in the Mediterranean. Founded in Naples in 1936, Tirrenia was acquired by Compagnia Italiana di Navigazione on July 19, 2012. Telemar was founded in 1947, and is one of the world’s largest international managed satellite service and navcom maintenance providers with 14 operating companies in 12 countries.
Aage Hempel, distributor for Danelec Marine in the Netherlands, is supplying VDRs for eight dry cargo ships operated by Feederlines. The ships are being fitted with Danelec DM400 VDRs, replacing the original VDR products. Feederlines operates a fleet of 41 ships ranging from 5, 500 to118, 000 deadweight tons, primarily serving short-sea routes. With more than 120 employees worldwide, Aage Hempel is a well-established company specializing in service, sales and installation of navigation, communication and safety equipment as well as satellite solutions.
Telemar and Aage Hempel are making the installations and will be responsible for shipboard service and mandatory annual performance tests for the VDRs.

The company announced May 19 that it is establishing up to 20 Certified Service Centers in key locations as part of a global strategy to upgrade its existing distributor network.
Augmenting the company’s extensive service coverage in more than 50 countries, the Certified Service Centers will maintain a substantial inventory of replacement units and spares to ensure availability at short notice to ships anywhere in the world.
