Northern Right Whale seasonal management
October 29, 2014, United States, New York, NewYork

The NOAA NMFS Seasonal Management Area regulations for the Northern Right Whale go into effect again at 0000 this coming Saturday, November 1. They remain in effect until 1 May.

Ships should not exceed 10 knots between the COLREGS demarcation line (approx. 5-6 gate in Ambrose and ha;fway between 5-6 and 7-8 gates Sandy Hook Channel) out to sea approximately 20 miles.

Because of the reduced transit speeds in Ambrose, beginning Saturday, please plan on additional time to transit between pilot station and Ambrose LBs 5 & 6. For example, most ships can figure approximately 2 hours vice 1 ½ hours from boarding at the pilot station to meeting boats in the Upper Bay.
