London, Monday, November 3. Maritime search and rescue professionals and volunteers from all over the globe are invited to attend the International Maritime Rescue Federation’s (IMRF) World Maritime Rescue Congress, to be held in Bremerhaven, Germany, in June next year.

Hosted by the German Maritime Search and Rescue Service (DGzRS), the event will run from June 1 to June 4, 2015, and is a must for maritime organisations involved, or likely to become involved, in search and rescue (SAR) on the world’s waters.

Organised by the IMRF, which has 112 member organisations, the Congress is held every four years. The last event took place in Shanghai, China, in 2011.

Key projects undertaken by the IMRF will be discussed during next year’s Congress. These include Mass Rescue Operations, Rescue Boat Guidelines and SAR programmes for developing countries.

There will also be discussions and practical workshops focussing on emerging maritime SAR challenges and innovative initiatives that are helping improve SAR organisation and management, mission coordination and search and rescue operations. A wide range of subjects will be on the agenda.

“This is the best opportunity to hear about all the latest developments in SAR from leading professionals, as well as learning about new programmes and guidelines, ” says Bruce Reid, Chief Executive of the IMRF.

“It’s also a chance to share views and ideas about how we can continue to learn and do things even better when it comes to saving lives. All our work relies on the contributions and insight of those who have practical experience of lifesaving on a day to day basis.”

Other events and activities will include the DGzRS 150th anniversary celebrations, which will include a parade of boats; an international trade fair and exhibition; rescue demonstrations and displays; and exhibitors’ showcases and presentations.

The World Maritime Rescue Congress only happens every 4 years. It is a key event in the maritime SAR calendar and should not be missed. Registration can be made online at  http://www.international-maritime-rescue.org/index.php/registrationwmrc2?view=event&event_id=24
