More than 20 conference sessions, including a number of special focus forums, have been confirmed for Intermodal Asia 2015, which takes place at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Center from 24-26 March.
“The conference will cover a range of issues and innovations relating to the global container transport and logistics industry, across the road, rail and sea sectors, ” says Sophie Ahmed, Event Director. “To help delegates maximise their time at this year’s conference and exhibition, we have grouped conference sessions into special focus forums, including The BIC Container Safety and Standardisation Forum, a Cold Chain Logistics Forum, a New Silk Road forum and a Shippers’ Panel.”
Attendees expected include shippers, shipping lines, agents, freight forwarders, terminal managers, container lessors, container manufacturers, railways, ports, maritime operators, and supply chain, transport and logistics professionals.
‘Intermodal Market Update’
A spotlight on the ‘Wider Economic Perspective and Intermodal Market Update’ will take place on day one in the Strategy Theatre. Tim Power, Director of Drewry Maritime Advisors, will present a conference titled ‘Global economic perspective for the container industry’.
There will also be an ‘Assessment of the impact of the new shipping line alliances on ports across China’ presented by Anthony Woolich, Partner, Holman Fenwick Willan; ‘Development of China’s macro economy and its impact on logistics and shipping’ presented by Mr. Jian Li, Senior Transportation Principal at AT Kearney; and ‘Forecasting growth of intra-Asia container trade’ presented by Mr. Zhang Yongfeng, Director of International Shipping Research Department, Shanghai International Shipping Institute (SISI).
Cold Chain Logistics Forum
A cold chain logistics forum will include a conference session addressing ‘BlueZone air cleaning for the reefer industry presented by Karen Benedek, Managing Partner at Primaira and a session looking at Natural refrigerants in reefer containers, by Holger König, Director, ref-tech engineering Germany.
Joost Sitskoorn of the European Shipper’s Council will chair the much anticipated Shipper’s Panel. “Intermodal Asia provides a good opportunity for logistics service providers, freight forwarders and shippers to meet and discuss common issues together – I think that is very important.” Joost Sitskoorn explains.
Speakers already confirmed to sit on the shippers’ panel include Mr. Frank Tang of the Macao Shippers’ Council, Mr. Toto Dirgantoro of the Indonesian National Shippers’ Council and representatives from the Hong Kong Shippers’ Council and the Thai National Shippers’ Council.
New Silk Road
A hotly anticipated topic at this year’s Intermodal Asia is the ‘New Silk Road’, which will have two focuses at the event. On day one CEO and President of Duisport, Erich Staake will present ‘Intercontinental rail transport solutions: The strategic importance of the New Silk Road connection Duisburg-Chongqing’.
A dedicated forum, titled ‘Investment in inland/Western China to improve inland connections: The New Silk Roads’ will be held on day two, featuring Henrik Christensen, President Global Logistics of KTZ Express Hong Kong talking about Rail reefer solutions over the New Silk Road; Don Miller of Globetracker presenting ‘Smart Visibility Solutions for the New Silk Road and beyond’; and Mr. Deng Yanjie of the China Waterborne Transport Research Institute discussing the Yangtze Corridor river and rail route.
Bureau International des Containers Forum
A forum focusing on Container Safety and Standardisation Issues will be presented by the Bureau International des Containers (BIC) on day two on Intermodal Asia. Deputy Secretary General of BIC, Douglas Owen, will chair the forum with Mr. Michel Hennemand, Chairman of BIC, discussing Container Standardisation Issues and Mr. James Huang, National Representative for China at BIC and Director of Director of Transport Logistics Service at Bureau Veritas, talking about CSC (Container Safety Convention) and ACEP (Approved Continuous Examination Programme) Issues.
All new Technology Theatre
New to Intermodal Asia 2015, the technology theatre will feature various conference topics and technology forums. The technologies involved in new container design, transport and manufacture will be the focus, with speakers including Mike Dempsey of WAM Technologies. Steven Zhao, Founder of ChinaGrate and Executive Director of CIMC ECO New Material Co Ltd, will present a conference session titled ‘Light weight and long lasting fibreglass composite panels for container and truck floors’.
The ‘Innovation in Containers’ forum on day two will review the benefits of the next generation of containers and handling, including a conference session from Kalmar.
