The Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST) will hold the 4th Ballast Water Conference in London, set to discuss what the challenges are and how to harness the opportunities of the Ballast Water Management Convention.

The two-day conference will cover an essential update including legal aspects of IMO’s Ballast Water Management Convention and of the US regulations; exemptions, exceptions, contingencies, and challenges in implementation and enforcement of regulations; how Class Societies, service providers and professional organisations are supporting the implementation of the regulations; and the role that technology suppliers hold in meeting the regulatory requirements.

Tom Mackey, Conference Chairman and Co-Chairman, IMarEST Ballast Water Expert Group commented: “This is a really important conference and one that is hugely topical and relevant to understand the challenges and the opportunities. The conference will discuss how various industry stakeholders can deal with the challenges. I encourage ship-owners, operators and managers, flag and port state representatives, shipbuilders and installation contractors, class societies and BW Management System manufacturers and testing providers to attend this leading conference.”

Taking place on 7-8 May at London Zoo, the conference has attracted leading speakers including; Dr David Wright – Co-Chairman, (IMarEST Ballast Water Expert Group), Jennie Folkunger, World Maritime University,  Debra DiCianna, Senior Consultant (ABS), Ingrid Sigvaldsen, Approval Engineer (DNV GL), and Sahan Abeysekara, Senior Specialist (Lloyd’s Register) and many others.

The conference has also attracted support from industry including Coldharbour Marine, Techcross, Trojan Marinex, Videotel, Wartsila, IMO-GloBallast Partnerships and InterManager.

In addition, the 4th Annual Founders’ Day Lecture, sponsored by ClassNK on the evening of Thursday 7 May 2015 is included after the conference featuring an evening drinks reception and BBQ for all guests.
