Slight uplift in modern tankersThere have been a number of sales in the bulker market over the last week with the biggest movement happening in the supra and handy sectors with older tonnage values dropping off. In the supra sector the CS Rainbow 55, 700 DWT ’06 blt Mitsui Tamano sold for USD 11.25 million, slightly below last done. In the handymax market the Bay Ranger 43, 100 DWT ’95 blt Oshima and the Ramada Queen 46, 400 DWT ’05 blt Oshima both sold at below market prices at USD 4.6 million and USD 8.65 million, respectively, causing a fall in values. There has been a firming of modern panamax values following the sale of the SBI Merengue 81, 600 DWT ’15 blt Tsuneishi Zhoushan, which sold for USD 27 million.

Over the last week the main activity in the tanker market has been in the MR sector with a number of sales. The Nord Strong and Stability 50, 000 DWT ’13 blt STX sold en bloc for USD 36.5 million and the Eships Sama 45, 800 DWT ’05 blt Shin Kurushima sold special survey due for USD 14.5 million. This has resulted in a slight uplift in values for modern tonnage.

In the container market values have remained stable. This week the YM New Jersey and YM Los Angeles 4, 900 TEU ’06 blt Koyo Dock have been reported sold for USD 21.5 million each with a 6 month time charter at USD 21, 000 per day attached, including a 2 year option.
