HELSINKI – MAY 7, 2015 – NAPA, the leading maritime software house, today announced the release of a new application to extend the NAPA Statutory Compliance solution with NAPA Release 2015.1.
Once available only to ClassNK customers using ClassNK Manager, this new application integrates ClassNK Manager’s expanded functionality into the NAPA Statutory Compliance tool. This integration has expanded and developed the tool for all customers to speed the classification approval process and improve the overall efficiency of ship design.
Developed with substantial investment from ClassNK and close cooperation with shipyards in Japan, the functionality incorporated from ClassNK Manager enables the calculation of hydrostatics, stability and longitudinal strength for bulk carriers, tankers and container vessels by applying the relevant rules and regulations automatically. This is in accordance with IMO regulations including the International Code on Intact Stability 2008, SOLAS 2009 and MARPOL Conventions as part of NAPA Manager.
After receiving intellectual property rights for the application through the courtesy of ClassNK, NAPA incorporated ClassNK Manager into NAPA Statutory Compliance Manager to greatly expand its functionality. The application incorporates purpose built, clear and understandable reports to support fast and easy creation of stability booklets and loading manuals from ClassNK Manager, and this new application will become the standard tool for NAPA’s Statutory Compliance solution offering. In addition, because it uses NAPA Manager’s 3D product model, it delivers a workflow requiring minimum input and is so intuitive and easy-to-use that no training is needed to use the software.
Jan Furustam, Product Manager, Naval Architecture, NAPA commented:
“At NAPA we work continuously to provide better tools and support to our customers, and to enhance the safety and efficiency of the vessels that they design. As the vast majority of the world’s newbuild vessels are designed at shipyards that use NAPA software, we need to ensure our systems are accessible and easy-to-use while also providing the specific outputs required by yards to help them design world class vessels.
“The incorporation of this new application into the NAPA Statutory Compliance tool will significantly broaden its scope; producing a system that can be used intuitively by anyone, capable of handling all relevant rules and regulations, and deliver them for approval by any class society. It was developed in close cooperation with yards, which has helped us to shape the design to deliver usable, instantly comprehensible outputs for naval architects. We are proud that the application is already in daily use at these yards.”
Mitsuhiko Kidogawa, Operating Officer, General Manager of Hull Department, ClassNK commented:
“We originally initiated the development of the common application as we saw the growing market share of NAPA in the global maritime industry. Cooperation with NAPA has resulted in many excellent applications for both ship design and operation.”
In 25 years NAPA has become the world leading software house supplying solutions for ship design and operation with a mission to improve safety and eco-efficiency of the global maritime industry.
