Association undergoes brand transformation to reflect its vision for the future

Esben Poulsson has been appointed as the new President of the Singapore Shipping Association (SSA) after the newly elected SSA Council (2015/2017) was voted into place at the Association’s Annual General Meeting yesterday (30 June 2015). The new Council elected him as successor to the outgoing SSA President Patrick Phoon.

Paying tribute to the work of the SSA and the Council, Mr Poulsson said: “I am honoured and humbled to be appointed President of this active and vibrant organisation, consisting in excess of 470 member companies.

“And as the SSA turns 30 years old, I would like to pay tribute to the work of the many Members who have served tirelessly on the Council and standing committees over the years, and, in particular, to my predecessor Patrick Phoon, who has served on the Council for no less than 24 years, the last four as President. His boundless energy, enthusiasm and sheer passion for our industry is there for all to see and stepping into his shoes will be a huge task for me – albeit he leaves the Association in good shape, and ready for the many challenges ahead. It is almost impossible to exaggerate his massive contribution to the SSA over so many years.

“I hope, during my tenure, to justify the faith the Council and membership has placed in me, I look forward to helping to represent our members’ interests to the best of my ability, and to continue our constructive relations with government agencies and other industry partners in Singapore and overseas in promoting and maintaining Singapore’s position as a leading International Maritime Centre.”

He added: “I feel our hard working Secretariat, ably led by Executive Director Michael Phoon, stands ready to help drive current initiatives forward, and to implement new initiatives introduced by the Council.”

Patrick Phoon, outgoing SSA President, said: “Over the past four years, I have received tremendous support from all my fellow Council Members, who have selflessly committed their time and effort towards furthering the objectives and interests of the SSA. Their dedication, drive and hard work, often went beyond the call of duty, of which I am most grateful for. After 24 years in the Council, I leave with a touch of sadness, but am happy that the Association has grown in stature into a force to be reckoned with! I am proud to hand over a thriving association to the new SSA President. I hope you will give Esben the same enthusiastic support that you have given me.”

SSA’S NEW LOGO
The Singapore Shipping Association (SSA) marks 30 years of service to the maritime industry this year. As an active voice representing 475 corporate members and growing, the SSA has been a positive force in representing the industry’s views at home and abroad.

The SSA has been actively engaged and working in synergy with its members and key stakeholders in dealing with issues of importance to the industry; in particular, the long-term interests of enhancing Singapore’s status as an International Maritime Centre.

To reflect the Association’s vision and drive as it embarks on its next lap, the SSA has rebranded itself with a new logo and embraced the tagline “Navigating the Future”. This was launched at the SSA’s cocktail reception held on the evening of the AGM at the Marina Mandarin Singapore with over 400 people from its membership and maritime community in attendance.

At the launch, newly-elected SSA President, Mr Poulsson said: “It is my honour to share with you our Association’s new brand identity that will inspire us to work towards our next milestones. The tagline “Navigating the Future”, was chosen to show the direction that the association will be heading – towards strengthening Singapore’s status as a leading International Maritime Centre, which will benefit all of us in the maritime community. This brand transformation represents where the association is today and our vision for the future.”
