IMCA WORKSHOP AT OI2016: SHARED VEHICLE-BORNE SENSORS FOR ROV AND OFFSHORE SURVEY APPLICATIONS

The rise of ‘ROV DP’, the capability to hold an ROV (remotely operated vehicle) stationary in the water column, has led to an increase in the sharing of ROV-mounted sensors, for ROV positioning, imaging and survey purposes.

A workshop, organised by the International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) during Oceanology International 2016 (OI2016), will discuss the opportunities and challenges arising from this shared use of sensors and consider the future for this developing field of technologies.

Taking place on Wednesday 16 March, alongside OI2016, the Workshop will be held in ExCeL London’s South Gallery Room 14. Coffee will be available from 13:00 and the Workshop will run from 13:30 until 17:00.

Jim Mann, Global ROV Manager, Fugro (IMCA Remote Systems & ROV Division Management Committee Chairman) will lead the workshop, supported by Sam Hanton, Vice President Survey and NASNet at Proserv (Member of IMCA Offshore Survey Division Management Committee).

“The workshop will provide an excellent opportunity to hear about advances within the industry, as well as a useful networking forum, ” explains IMCA’s Technical Director, Richard Benzie. “It is your chance to contribute your ideas and views on the future of this field of development within the industry.”

Jim Mann and Sam Hanton will welcome delegates to the free-to-attend workshop. Speakers will be Tim Rhodes, Development Manager, Fugro Subsea Technologies on ‘Shared vehicle-borne sensors: ROV perspective”; then Robin Longstaff, Survey & Inspection Manager, Bibby Offshore will give the ‘Shared vehicle-borne sensors: Survey perspective’ view; before Malik Chibah, INS Group Manager, Sonardyne turns delegates’ attention to ‘Shared vehicle-borne sensors: A sensor manufacturer’s perspective’. After a coffee break, there will be a 90-minute discussion led by Jim Mann and Sam Hanton.

The seminar is open to all IMCA members and interested parties. Those planning to attend should register via the IMCA website at www.imca-int.com or by emailing events@imca-int.com as places are strictly limited to 80 people

About IMCA

  • IMCA is an international association with over a thousand members in more than 60 countries representing offshore, marine and underwater engineering companies. IMCA has four technical divisions, covering marine/specialist vessel operations, offshore diving, hydrographic survey and remote systems and ROVs, plus geographic sections for the Asia-Pacific, Central & North America, Europe & Africa, Middle East & India and South America regions. As well as a core focus on safety, the environment, competence and training, IMCA seeks to promote its members’ common interests, to resolve industry-wide issues and to provide an authoritative voice for its members.
  • IMCA publishes some 200 guidance notes and technical reports – many are available for free downloading by members and non-members alike. These have been developed over the years and are extensively distributed. They are a definition of what IMCA stands for, including widely recognised diving code of practice, DP documentation, marine and ROV good practice guidance, the Common Marine Inspection Document (CMID) – now available electronically as eCMID, safety recommendations, outline training syllabi and the IMCA competence scheme guidance. In addition to the range of printed guidance documents, IMCA also produces safety promotional materials, circulates information notes and distributes safety flashes.
