Stunning views from the verandas…
Kallichoron is the jewel in the crown of Astypalea, the butterfly-shaped island in the Dodecanese. Anny Zade writes:
Over the last two years in weekly, monthly reports as well as in specific articles we have recommended unique holidays on Planet Ocean and specifically in Greece and its archipelagos. These are special places of reference vis-à-vis holiday breaks, their qualities enhancing tourism and in particular maritime tourism for which categories we have dozens of articles and reports from all over the world.
Following two reports on the Kallichoron Art Boutique Hotel this year – one on the occasion of introducing same to the members of the international shipping fraternity and one following Kallichoron’s winning the Green Marketing Award at the Marketing Excellence Awards 2015 for “Grandma’s Breakfast” as a means to promote sustainability and green practices in the hotel industry, we set out to discover these traditional offerings of south east Aegean by visiting Astypalea and its multitude of environmental charms!

Blue lagoon…no, this is Astypaleas Maltezana
Kallichoron is an authentic art boutique hotel on Astypalea, which offers exceptional hospitality and tailor-made options to its guests. The hotel’s location in the heart of Chora (the island’s capital), the breathtaking view of the endless blue of the Aegean Sea and the Venetian Castle in combination with its premium services and friendly staff available to assist at all times, makes Kallichoron the perfect destination on Astypalea.
All apartments enjoy sweeping views to the charming settlement of Chora, the Venetian Castle and the sea and come with self-catering equipment, coffee machine, refrigerator, air-conditioning, 32” TV LCD, free Wi-Fi, telephone, hairdryer, bathrobes and luxury toiletries by Apivita.
In summary, the attractions prepared by the management for this year are:

Grandma’s breakfast: Just before… the dip in…
Grandma’s Breakfast: Kallichoron is the only hotel in Greece that received in 2015 the Green Marketing Excellence Award for offering “Grandma’s Breakfast” as a means to promote sustainability and green practices in the hotel industry. Kallichoron has adopted the philosophy of ‘Greek Breakfast’ and in collaboration with the dietician-nutritionist, Mary Micheli MSc offers a breakfast list with a variety of traditional delicacies from the island’s culinary culture.
Art Project: Every year there are contemporary art creations of renowned artists throughout the hotel and the apartments. This year the beautiful artwork of the renowned Greek artist Eva Divari on the theme of “Whirlpools” is noticeable everywhere in the hotel.
Green Key Eco-labelled Hotel: It is a priority for Kallichoron’s management to act responsibly in everything they do. They are proud to be the only Green Key eco-labelled hotel in Astypalaia for promoting eco-awareness and offering high quality services to its guests. The management supports the non-profit organisation “Clean Hands” which collects residual soap from hotels and after appropriate treatment, distributes the reprocessed product to socially vulnerable groups.
Kallichoron Wellness: Experience nature at its best, relax the mind and acquire a harmonious sense of freedom through your body. This summer, the management invited the renowned Greek-Spanish body conscience and movement instructor Denise Perdikidis from Madrid to introduce a different way to achieve a sense of wellness through outdoor activities by the sea.
Kallichoron Room-to-Give: Being a socially responsible establishment, the hotel has introduced the “Room-to-Give” initiative to support local community projects for children and cultural activities where possible.

Also the hotel regularly hosts themed excursions throughout the year, inviting guests to explore the beautiful surroundings, the wondrous nature, the local traditions and tastes of Astypalea. Viewers can download the schedule for 2016 here. Meanwhile, the management of Kallichoron is now able to organise special packages exclusively for its guests based on their preferences. In the hotel’s art shop, one can find fine handmade jewellery creations “On-irA”; this is another plus!
“Kallichoron brings us back to our roots. Authentic tastes, sweeping views, local traditions and beautiful surroundings on an island that preserves its character. Our aim is to establish an authentic, eco-conscious, art boutique hotel in the heart of the Aegean Sea and introduce to our guests the Astypalea we know and love. We want our guests to feel at home through outstanding hospitality, wonderful stories and insight; a great introduction to peaceful island living. For us, travelling equals experience, to welcome the visitors as guests and farewell them as friends.
For this atmosphere of endless blue and eternal sunshine, Astypalea and Kallichoron Art Boutique Hotel will always be a very special place for us, ” says Maria Mavroudi, the hotel manager.
