Singapore, 16 August 2016 – SingPost celebrates Singapore’s first Olympic gold medal with two commemorative slogan designs. On 12 August 2016, Joseph Schooling won Singapore’s first-ever Olympic gold medal after winning the men’s 100m butterfly final at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, with an Olympic record time of 50.39 seconds. This was also the first ever gold medal by a Southeast Asian male swimmer.
Mr Woo Keng Leong, CEO (Postal Services), SingPost, said: “This is a historic and proud moment for Singapore. We celebrate Singapore’s first Olympic gold and the determination, discipline and dedication that have made Joseph Schooling Singapore’s stamp of distinction. Congratulations, Joseph!”.
Most stamped letter mail from 16 August 2016 to 31 August 2016 will be imprinted with the commemorative postmarks. The designs for these are based on the concepts of ‘Stamp of Distinction’ and ‘Stamping Greatness in 50.39 Seconds’.
Those who wish to collect these special postmarks are advised to ensure that their mail items are of good mail quality, using standard sized and light-coloured envelopes.
SingPost released a Games of the XXXI Olympiad stamp set on 5 August 2016, in celebration of the Rio 2016 Summer Olympic Games. The set of stamps comes in four designs, featuring sports in swimming (1st Local), shooting (70¢), table tennis (90¢), and sailing ($1.30).
