SHIPPING INDUSTRY LEADERS TO GATHER IN LIVERPOOL FOR THE THIRD ANNUAL MERSEY MARITIME INDUSTRY AWARDS (MMIAs)
Leading figures in the shipping industry from across the UK are set to gather in Liverpool next week for the third prestigious Mersey Maritime Industry Awards (MMIAs).
The line-up of guests is set to include Bernhard Friess, Director of the European Commission and David Dingle, Chairman of Maritime UK. Jacqueline Foster, MEP for the North West, will feature as a key guest note speaker on the night.
The awards are organised by sector representative body Mersey Maritime and they recognise the excellence and diversity that exists across all sectors of the maritime industry in the North West.
The MMIAs 2017 will focus on the theme of ‘Liverpool Is Back’ and will include a scene-setting video on the night reminding guests of major events in Liverpool’s maritime sector in 2016 that made headlines across the globe, including the launch of Liverpool2 – the Port of Liverpool’s new £400m deep water container terminal and the keel-laying ceremony for construction of polar research ship the Sir David Attenborough at the Cammell Laird shipyard in Birkenhead.
Chief Executive of Mersey Maritime, Chris Shirling-Rooke said: “The MMIAs 2017 is going to be our third and biggest year to date. We have a great line-up of guests attending the ceremony, showing that in just three years the MMIAs has secured its place as one of the top events in the UK maritime awards calendar. The number of entries has increased for the third year running, which has left us with an extremely high standard of finalists, all of whom would make very worthy winners.
“We have had a fantastic response from companies in the North West and it really does show us that Liverpool is back and we are open for business, which is the theme we have chosen for this year’s awards. It’s going to be a fantastic night.”
The winners will be announced at a black tie Awards Dinner on March 9th at Liverpool, Football Club.
