The Australian Bureau of Meteorology has declared a Cyclone Watch for coastal areas between Cape Tribulation (Latitude 16 deg. 05 minutes south) and Proserpine (Latitude 20 deg. 10 minutes south). A Cyclone Watch is declared when gale force winds are likely to affect the area within 24-48 hours. The Regional Harbour Master for Hay Point and Mackay is closely monitoring the situation and will advise of further action for ship masters to take. In the meantime, all ships are advised to ballast down to sea going condition and be ready to evacuate the port if directed by the Harbour Master. All routine engine immobilisation activity is suspended with immediate effect. All ships at Hay Point Anchorage are advised to ballast down and be ready to leave the Anchorage at 4 hours’ notice. They are also advised to keep a listening watch on VHF ch. 16 for VTS broadcasts. Current weather conditions are as follows: Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal has 2 vessels alongside and are both scheduled to depart this afternoon. The terminal have decided not to any vessels after the departure of the 2 vessels already alongside. 15 vessels remain at anchor. Hay Point Coal Terminal has 2 vessels alongside and are both scheduled to depart this afternoon. The terminal have decided not to any vessels after the departure of the 2 vessels already alongside. 17 vessels remain at anchor Abbot Point Coal Terminal has 1 vessel alongside and is scheduled to depart this afternoon. The terminal is now preparing for cyclone. The port still remains open and will be reviewed later today. 1 vessel remains at anchor. Mackay Harbour remains open. No vessels alongside or waiting at anchor. The Harbour Master has not officially closed any of the ports re above nor the anchorage positions at this stage. All cancellation of vessels scheduled to berth has been cancelled of the respective terminals.
