Friend of the Sea and FairPrice join forces to increase sustainable seafood awareness in Singapore by 2020

by admin
FairPrice, major retail chain in Singapore and well known for its long-time commitment to social accountability and community support, has joined forces with Friend of the Sea to promote sustainable seafood awareness in the country.

The retail chain is already highlighting a group of Friend of the Sea certified products on the shelves, including mussels, prawns and shrimps, from various suppliers. A promotional week has been launched with in-store activities and advertisements on major national newspapers. Consumers have become aware of the issues of overfishing and other potential environmental impacts of seafood production.

Paolo Bray, Director and Founder of Friend of the Sea, also highlights the importance of this new collaboration. “Friend of the Sea is very proud to work with FairPrice on protecting our Oceans,” he explains. “We made consumers in Singapore aware of how their responsible choices can encourage sustainable fishing and aquaculture practices.”

Friend of the Sea
Friend of the Sea is an international certification program for products from sustainable fisheries and aquaculture. Over 600 companies in more than 60 countries have relied on Friend of the Sea to assess the sustainable origin of their seafood. Audits, based on the best and the most updated available scientific data, are run by accredited independent certification bodies. Recently the program has expanded to the certification of sustainable shipping, ornamental fish and whale watching operators.
