Market hiccups continue amid geopolitical – including economic, chaos

The BDI (Baltic Dry Index) lost ground with a further 14 points being …evaporated and now at 1,482 points enters a crucial point; geopolitics and in particular economic issues are crucial but the public lives in hibernation… John Faraclas daily recap:

The Capers’ BCI dive continued; minus 78 points today and at 3,059 looks …”ready” to go under this secure threshold!!!

The Panamaxes, our most favourite size managed to clinch another 36 points and the BPI at 1,539 brings some hope and sustainability to its owners…

The Supras’ BSI was down 16 points; another double digit down…and at 1,027 might, repeat might go under the 1,000 points…

The Handies’ BHSI lost five points and at 668 is still a bit safe…

So the gap between today and the end of December 2013 of the BDI has widen to 765 points (2,247 minus 1,482)…

Mixed pictures for the Wets; the last BDTI (Dirties) and BCTI (Cleans) stood at 867 – minus four and 534 – up six points respectively.

The WTI maintained its  …strength at US$ 54.21; c a u t i o n  as we have warned all of the possible consequences from these illogical actions from those in “power” to raise the price as same will soon become detrimental with whatever this entails…

The shipfinance world has entered …the orphanage so to speak as the finance banks got it wrong and the funds, despite their control of lots of money DON’T and will never understand shipping…

The Geopolitical front remains critical in all sectors and we have to be prepared from an Armageddon of events, which are already enfolding even next door to all, all over Planet Ocean:

The MIGRANTS issue continue to be by far the most important issue; today on the Greek Island of Chios MIGRANTS of various nationality clashed among them… The EU really does nothing coherent. Even today at a high level between Greek and Turkey’s officials in vice prime-ministerial level the MIGRANTS issue was discussed as in the passed but as always they continue to come from the Turkey’s Anatolian coast over to the Greek Islands and then for the …long haul to Europe… Shame to all political levels; end of the story – we have to use a harsh language as this is what politicians and diplomats deserve…

The Wars in Syria and Iraq continue and the destruction of both counties, particularly Syria is beyond any understandable logic… We eagerly await to see the aftermath and the result accomplished by all combatants … ISIS as said yesterday has been defeated in the War Theatre, now it should be completely dismembered… Its members deserve the worst of punishment with their crimes against humanity – physical, humane, cultural you name it they have destroyed and must be smashed. This is the punishment they deserve and we must be vigilant upon their return to our societies.-

Turkey continues its double face policy; purchased the S-400 anti missile Russian-made defence system, …after all a NATO county; but what do you expect from Turkey. Today whilsts its vice president/prime minister so to speak was meeting his counterpart, Turkish warplanes continued to violate Greece’s and Europe’s airspace. This yea violations are on the increase, and when the accident will happen, wonder what the so called super power will have to say… Shame! Wonder what Ms. Merkel has to say on all these Turkish behaviour…

Greece slides into a very peculiar situation… From the one hand we read on catharsis on fraudsters and their accomplices, and on the other hand the 99 centum of those who embezzled public money are still outside at large among ordinary and innocent people. We propose here and now the speedy continuation of all procedures to end with this chapter and see Greeks from all parties and their foreign accomplices be punished! The situation in Greece is very serious…

BREXIT continues to hit headlines. The United Kingdom is at the forefront of news. Today, after just over ten years, the interest rate went to 0.50% with its pros and cons… Wait and see the aftermath of this action… Scandals continue to shake up the entire British establishment, resignations too… Some good things though happen, and that well received by the public. The Pound reach its best time in four months… We might see a recession after the New Year, but…

Spain is going through a very difficult period with the Catalonian saga which in reality takes shape now… Wonder though if justice is blind…

At the other side of the Atlantic things are getting very perplexed particularly in the USA were president Tump is being drawn into very messy issues and must proves he has the charisma to go through even at a price, but we feel there is meteorological low which bring political tsunamis… watch this space particularly the so called  Russian saga… Meantime a new head of the Fed has been named by president Trump; let’s see when he is worn-in and his policies for the short and long term…

All on stage: George Xyradakis (fourth from the left) and the BoG of the Propeller Club  Port of Piraeus

On another tone, earlier on tonight at Athens’ Athenaeum Intercontinental Hotel the AMVER 2017 Awards event just ended… A very well organised event attracting over a thousand guests; congrats to the president of the Propeller Club Port of Piraeus George Xyradakis and his BoGs and the cooperation of the US Embassy in Athens and the USCG in organising this exceptional event. More than 1,800 Greek owned ships managed by 229 Greek shipmanagement companies received their award attended by State and Government senior officials.

l to r: Radm US Navy Linda L. Fagan, George Xyradakis, Admiral Evangelos Apostolakis, head of the Greek Armed Forces and Costis  J. Frangoulis during the cocktail reception

The entire Greek shipping cluster was there. The Greek Military headed by Admiral Evangelos Apostolakis, head of the Greek Armed Forces where present too. We are more than pleased as supporters of rescue organisations to see the special awards given to shipping companies volunteering  without hesitation in saving lives under danger at sea…  Regina Faraclas was there with her camera and will revert soonest with a full report.

More news later on, until then be on guard from dangers emanating from Pirates and Terrorists wherever you are all over Planet Ocean…
