The Holy Cross is being lowered…
The place, the people, the procedure are the most important factors that greatly contribute in these events, be it religious, social or business. Over the years we have attended dozens of the very Sacred Epiphany feast day and in particular up in Piraeus’ “Holy Rock by the Sea” as many call it, the historic Yacht Club of Greece – the Koumoundouros Hill with its unique historic and archaeological importance with general Conon’s defensive works (c. 391-394 B.C) and the Temple of Artemis!
The four-level Club’s premises overlook the plain of Athens and Faliron Bay and its prominent view is second to none!

The event attracted a great number of people – members and their friends to celebrate the first major event of the New Year!
The Blessing of the Waters was officiated by Archimandrite Eusevios.
The Archbishop of Athens and Greece Ieronimos was also among the guests escorted by the Metropolitan of Piraeus Seraphim, as did the Mayor of Piraeus Yiannis Moralis and Radm (HN) Michael Dounis – a former merchant-navy officer too…

A smiling Admiral (Ret.HN) Alexandros Papadogonas, president of the Club – who also served in the past as Minister of Mercantile Marine with his wife Nike and the director general Commodore (Ret.HN) Tassos Kavalis, George S. Andreadis with his wife Anna and many members – over 350 members and their guests participated in the seated buffet lunch with excellent wines and traditional post-Christmas sweets.
Good to see amongst others the ever present Chiot Irene Rallis, her daughter May Zannis with her young daughter – three generations; tradition at its best! Michael and Miriam Baxevanis – they never miss an event, Iris Liaskonis, Lilleta Bouda, Anastassia Sarakakis, Anny Seferiadis, Grigoris Kyritsakis, Poly Gaki, Theodoros Dedes, Nikos Michopoulos, Antonia Douka, Katia Nolka, George Haramis, and many many others.

Congratulations also to Thodoris Papademitriou the YCG F&B manager and his team, our compliments to the chef Giorgos Moschovakis but also to Tammi, the 60’s and 70’s singer for her live performance bringing us back to our first youth – she can fill up the Wembley Stadium!
