Home MarketsChartering Turbulent Markets; Turbulent Geopolitics…

John Faraclas

The BDI lost 13 points earlier on today and now stands at 1,609… The Geopolitics take a perplexed twist and turn and among other issues there has been major events in British Politics due to the ongoing BREXIT saga. A different wold since last Friday… John Faraclas’ brief recap:

The Capes, as volatile as ever saw the BCI losing 70 points and from the 3,016 points might drop even below the 3,000 point threshold –  which gave some very good freight rates and an optimism… CAUTION!

The Panamaxes’ BPI gained 20 points and now reads 1,367; good news!

The Supras fall continued with the BSI down to 997 points – minus two…

The Handies’ BHSI was also down, just a point and now reads 562.

Once again we warn that the situation is serious and the outcome sour! One size, as it has many times been proven by our view, doesn’t make/create the market nor dictates same.

The Wets with mixed feelings; the last published BDTI (Dirties) and BCTI (Cleans) stood at 721 – plus 11 and 502 – no change respectively!

The WTI  stood at US$ 73.80 – might go even slightly higher… Too dangerous to have the WTI above the US$ 49.99 – we will continue to repeat our view: it will create not just revolts, but social upturns and bankruptcies!

Hiccups with the Chinese on the S&P front in importing ships but there are other ways the sellers mainly Greeks they can employ…

The Geopolitical issues still remain the same:

MIGRANTS, Middle East – Syria, Iraq, Turkey – president Erdogan was sworn-in as president with the powers of a Sultan so to speak, and the Lira tumbled three percent, Greece – too many issues hang …unbalanced , the EU in tatters with four nations’ economy in a mess – Italy about to collapse with colossal debts, the North Korean nuclear saga remains, China trouble in AND BREXIT’s latest developments with two unfounded resignations in more or less 24 hours. The BREXIT and the FCO ministers resignations might cause an upheaval. It wasn’t though in my humble view the appropriate move; it was an unprofessional move but also an accident waiting to happen, particularly for Boris Johnston… History will tell who was right and who was wrong; developments and the end result will also count on this assessment! Let’s hope Mrs. May can deliver; she “attracted” the wrath – for no reason of her male colleagues; shame! Novichock claims another victim in the UK; and now what? Let’s see the British reaction… All set for president Trump’s visit on the 13th of July! Some good news from the Thai boys!! Climate change at its best with unique weather phenomena in the UK, Europe and in particular down in Greece… Japan’s rainfall saw over 110 dead and hundreds injured / many in trouble and homeless… Russian re-elected President Putin still sticks to his own agenda…

What an exciting Regatta that was yesterday at Henley’s and what football surprises in the Russian World Cup! Greek tennis ace bowed out with dignity and honour; Stefanos Tsitsipas is the man to watch in the coming years…

Have a nice evening and be on guard from Pirates, Terrorists and Criminals of any kind looming in the background wherever you are on Planet Ocean!
