Thomas Gunn
Managing Director of Poseidon Navigation Services

Leading global containership carrier Hapag-Lloyd has appointed Poseidon Navigation Services Ltd as the supplier of all Chart Management Services for the fleet managed by Hapag-Lloyd Hamburg.

The appointment, announced after an in-depth evaluation process, starts immediately and will include Poseidon Navigation Services’ ‘Challenger’ software platform which will provide weekly updates for all Admiralty products, both paper and digital.

Welcoming the announcement, Thomas Gunn, Managing Director at Poseidon Navigation Services, said providing critical navigational data in a fast and efficient way to the Bridge Team was crucial to the safety and operational awareness of all vessels. “Using our Challenger software platform ensures that all vessels remain compliant at all times,” he said.

He added: “After in-depth discussions with Hapag-Lloyd, we were able to demonstrate the many benefits of our Challenger software and to be able to provide a bespoke digital solution for all their fleet of vessels. Both, myself and all the team at Poseidon Navigation Services, are delighted to be working alongside the involved parties at Hapag-Lloyd.”

Challenger has already been approved by the Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA); the UK Hydrographic Office; as well as a host of flags including Germany, Panama, Marshall Islands, Singapore, Isle of Man, to name but a few.

It provides updates for Admiralty Paper Charts and Publications, AVCS, ADP and e-NP digital products and allows the end user to effectively manage onboard holdings, and receive updates either by a direct Web Sync or by receiving weekly email files.
