The BDI (Baltic Dry Index) lost 56 points earlier on today and approaches the dangerous zone – which already has each twice within the last two months… Geopolitics despicable; John Faraclas brief daily recap:

The Capes … are “back” with a triple-digit figure loss 132 points and the BCI at 1,892 points losing the 2,000 point threshold…

The Panamaxes’ BPI lost 41 points and now stands at 950 points…

Losses for both the Supras’ and Handies’ with the BSI and BHSI standing at 660 – minus 20 and 432 – minus 10 respectively!

Thank Posidon that we had mixed feeling for the Wets… The last published BDTI (Dirties) and BCTI (Cleans) stood at 872 – plus two points !!! and 659 – minus two respectively…

The WTI ended the day …down; at US$53.01 gives some hope for another fall. A very much needed situation!

All in all a falling Dry Market as well as a very low Wet Market… More tomorrow with the 10th Marine Money London Ship Finance Forum!

Davos Davos Davos … begun today with two main issues at stake: The Global Economy (for us in Shipping: Planet Ocean’s Economy) and the Environment amid BREXIT’s turmoil and a perplexed Geopolitical platoon! Mrs. Lagarde’s IMF gave a warning following very poor figures and expectations; the figures are gloomy and conversely the development in the coming two years. The Environment still in a messy limbo with 2020 and beyond still uncertain… Too many risks around: The USA’s economy decelerates, China growth stack,  the USA-China Trade War gets worse, and War Father of all is ante portas; end of the story!

The United Kingdom is as split on Brexit as you never ever imagined before and expect surprises – nasty ones and a few positive ones…

The Migrants maintain the lead position on the news and this time we can see too many deaths from the crossings… On top of anything else we shouldn’t risk anymore with the social cohesion as in my humble view this is detrimental!

Difficult issues in the USA and let’s see how president Trump deals with all these difficulties.

Did I hear you say the Balkans or East Med? Expect a lot to happen down there and very soon!

On another tone and note Bureau Veritas staged a double event earlier on tonight: An excellent press conference with three specialist speakers including the new head of the marine and offshore division Matthieu De Tugny, Gijsbert De Jong and Panos Koutsourakis. Under the general theme “Welcome in 2019 with Bureau Veritas” at the Cucumber, Sea Containers  at the Upper Ground next to Father Thames. Afterwards a great reception took place with the handover of the Marine and Offshore Division from Philippe Donche-Gay to Matthieu De Tugny.

Nicholas Brown, the Communications director of the society and his team put together with Blue Coms  a great event excellently performed by BV’s London office headed by Yiannis Calogeras and his team!

The Reception at the 13th floor with over 300 guests was a great chance for networking leading to business; who wasn’t there… A good chance also to meet the BV people!

We will revert with more info and points from the press conference were 17 journalists attended!

Have a nice evening and remain on guard from actions emanating from Pirates, Terrorists, Criminals and Business Hooligans whatsoever wherever you are on Planet Ocean…
