Vilamoura, Portugal, has been growing as a winter destination for the past few seasons. Regattas in December and now February attracted 109 and then 116 boats respectively across 49er, 49erFX, and Nacra 17.

The regatta this past weekend was a doozy, with big breeze and waves each of the days. Check out this video of 2018 European Champions Helene Naess and Marie Ronningen (NOR) in absolute survival mode heading downwind as they navigate a growing graveyard. That’s skiff sailing at it’s best!

Who Is Up Next in Australia?

For as long as the 49er class has existed, the Australia Sailing Team has performed at the highest level. From Chris Nicholson winning the classes’ first three World Championships, to Nathan Outteridge & Iain Jensen taking gold and silver in London and Rio, it’s fair to say that the 49er sailors from down under have been a force to be reckoned with. Will these good things must come to an end? We sat down with Australian 49er coach, Euan McNicol and squad members David & Lachy Gilmour to dive deeper into the current state of the Australian 49er team… read on

Live Broadcasting At Weymouth Europeans

The 49er and Nacra 17 Classes, in partnership with our hosts the RYA and WPNSA, are pleased to announce that the final four days of the 2019 European Championship will be broadcast live via our online channels. The regatta itself is from May13-19, and we’ll be able to broadcast the final day of qualifying, along with the gold fleet races and medal races.

“Bringing the best of fleet racing to our fans is a constant goal of the classes. Showcasing the best sailors on earth in between Olympic Games is vital to telling the story and journey of how these champions come to be,” said classes president, Marcus Spillane.

The lead broadcaster is Icarus Media, who will also clip and edit the show to distributed on a tape delayed basis to nearly 1 billion households in the months following the regatta.

The European Championship is the biggest regatta of the European season in 2019. Many nations will use the regatta to qualify their squads for the READY STEADY TOKYO, the 2019 Test Events, and some will even factor it into the Olympic qualification.

Weymouth, the sailing venue for the London 2012 games is a fantastic venue for racing, with on shore facilities unrivaled in their suitability for dinghy racing. Fleets will race both inside and outside of the breakwater, so will be tested in flat water and in choppier conditions. We expect over 90 teams in the 49er, and over 60 teams in each of the 49erFX and Nacra 17, for a total exceeding 420 athletes.

Magic Marine Launches 2019 Collection

Magic Marine, the 49er Class, and the Nacra 17 Class are proud to inform you that our 2019 Collection is online! The new collection focuses on consistency. There are also some incremental improvements in the current collection and a few new items. Back are last year’s signature products: the Horizon Hiking Long John we developed with Nicholas Heiner and the Aurelian Harness we designed with the help of Martine Grael and Kahena Kunze. And there’s more to come in the next few years!

There have been a lot of changes in the past few years, the goal for 2019 is to follow through on a solid base within three clothing series: the Brand Collection, the Ultimate Collection and the Racing Collection. One of the new items we added to expand the basics in our Brand Collection is the Brand Jacket which completes our Brand Trousers. This entry level Foul Weather Gear is for everyone who needs some good basics, the Brand Collection is friendly priced and gives enough comfort to keep you warm and dry.

We also added two navy colored items to our Lifestyle Collection: the Pearl Jacket, which is a bomber style, waterproof jacket and the popular Squall polo!

The only thing we completely changed for the better is our range of big boat accessories. Not only the color of the line has changed, but we also changed the material and all accessories are sorted with a new support system, called the thumlock system.

IMPROVED FEATURES WORTH MENTIONING

Our Regatta Drysuit has been given fancy suspenders to make the suit stay where it needs to be. The Element Jackets have now fleece lining pockets with a zipper in stead of Velcro ® which makes them safer to store your personal belongings. One other thing to make life on the water pretty easy going is that the zipper for the inside pockets of the Element Jacket can now be reached from the outside, so no need to unzip your jacket when taking anything out during sailing!

BRAND NEW!As we mentioned before, one of the new items we’re very proud of is the Brand Sailing Jacket which comes in navy and graphite. The new entry level foul weather gear jacket is developed using MTECH2.0 performance technology to create a windproof, waterproof and breathable shell, with a sportive contoured shape for the best fit. The back of the women’s version is tailored to be slightly longer creating a more flattering and practical female fit.

The jacket has been designed with durability in mind, with extra panels at the elbows/forearms, and on the bottom of the back. It also features a soft micro fleece lined collar to limit chin rash. The outer cuffs are adjustable to keep the sleeves in the right place and better fit. For safety reasons there are reflective prints on the right upper arm, back neck, chin and a reflective batch on the back of the jacket. The adjustable bright roll-away hooded also include a reflective badge for safety. In the inside of the jacket there is a large internal name label so no one takes your comfortable jacket by mistake.

This jacket has been designed in line with the Brand range so it can be mixed and matched with for example the Brand Trousers and teams can coordinate their kit.
