MARINE INCIDENT AT BOSPHORUS STRAIT
Tung Chung New Town Extension Project Construction of Eco-shoreline at Siu Ho Wan, Lantau Island

For approximately 12 months, construction of eco-shoreline will be carried out within the area bounded by straight lines joining the following co-ordinates (WGS 84 Datum) from (A) to (D) and the adjacent shoreline:
(A) 22 deg. 18.717’N / 113 deg. 59.498’E
(B) 22 deg. 18.811’N / 113 deg. 59.407’E
(C) 22 deg. 19.092’N / 113 deg. 59.741’E
(D) 22 deg. 19.016’N / 113 deg. 59.815’E
The works will be carried out by a flotilla of vessels including one grab dredger, one crane barge, one flat-top barge, one landing pontoon and two dumb lighters. One delivery barge, one tugboat and two work boats will provide assistance. The number and types of vessels engaged in the works will change from time to time to suit operational requirements.
A working area of approximately 50 metres around each working vessel will be established. Yellow marker buoys fitted with yellow flashing lights will be laid to mark the positions of the anchors extending from the working vessels.
A silt curtain, extending from the sea surface to the seabed, will be established within the works area. The silt curtain is a large piece of netting used to contain mud and sediments. Yellow marker buoys fitted with yellow flashing lights will be laid to mark the extent of the silt curtain.
The hours of work will be from 0700 to 2300 hours including Sundays and public holidays. Vessels employed for the works will stay in the works area outside the hours of work.
Diving operations will be carried out from time to time during the hours of work.
Vessels engaged in the operations will display signals as prescribed in international and local regulations.
Vessels navigating in the vicinity should proceed with caution and keep clear of the works area at slow speed, bearing in mind there are divers working in the area.

Marine incident at Bosphorus Strait

The Maltese Flag, MT Baltic Soul, reported sparking from the funnel of ship when transiting from north to south through the Bosphorus Strait. The subject vessel dropped its anchor in the Buyukdere Bay inside of the strait at 06:53hrs local time.
Once the failure was fixed on board, MT Baltic Soul moved from the anchorage in Buyukdere Bay at 10:30hrs in line with the Istanbul VTS instruction and dropped its anchor again in the northern anchorage of Bosphorus at 12:35hrs local time.
This vessel will have to wait for further inspection and clearance by their classfication society in order to continue for SB transit through the Bosphorus.
Meanwhile, the vessel traffic at the Bosphorus is not affected by this incident and remains opened.
