‘Ship Management in the Digital Era’ – a Bureau Veritas seminar in Limassol, Cyprus, addressed the needs of managers in today’s ever more complex world

Following presentations by BV experts, the seminar focused on the latest digital tools that Bureau Veritas has launched in the last three years

Piraeus, March 11th, 2019   ‘Ship Management in the Digital Era: Addressing Opportunities – Managing Threats’, was a Bureau Veritas seminar held on the 25th of February 2019 at Four Seasons Hotel in Limassol, Cyprus. The meeting was hosted and coordinated by Dr. John Kokarakis, Technology & Business Development Director of the Hellenic, Black Sea and Adriatic Zone Bureau Veritas.

Members of some of the most prominent companies of the shipping cluster of Cyprus participated in the seminar, showing great interest in the subjects under discussion. The participants were welcomed by Mrs Paillette Palaiologou, Vice President Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore Division, Hellenic Black Sea and Adriatic Zone and by Mr. Nicos Attas, Bureau Veritas Marine Chief Executive for Cyprus.

The Seminar comprised five presentations delivered by Bureau Veritas experts from the Greek office and from the Head Office of the company in Paris.

Mr. Vassilis Dimoulas, Technology and Innovation Manager Greece, Cyprus & Malta Bureau Veritas presented the digital tools developed by BV to enhance the ship managers’ day-to-day vessel operation.

Mr Michael Valkov, Fleet Management  – Technical Performance & Port State Control Manager demonstrated “PSC Ready”, Bureau Veritas’ free web and mobile application that helps shipowners and managers prepare for Port State Control inspections.

Mr Jose Esteve, Asset Integrity Management Services Director, presented Bureau Veritas’ Asset Integrity Management digital tool “VeriSTAR AIM3D” attracting the interest of the participants with the new possibilities to follow up the Hull and Machinery lifecycle of a vessel in the digital era.

The “hot” topic of Cyber Security was presented by Mr Dimoulas, who spoke about the newly published BV Rule Note NR659 that along with the specialized notations “Cyber Managed” and “Cyber Secured” help the ship owners and managers perform their own Cyber Security Risk Assessments.

The seminar concluded with a presentation by Mr. Nikos Trilizas, Industry & Facilities Manager Bureau Veritas Hellas describing the BV Certification technical standard for GDPR compliance, referring in detail to the ways to achieve certification in order to target compliance with the Data Protection Regulation.
