UK products account for a third of DAME Design Award 2019 nominations

Nominations for the prestigious DAME Design Award 2019 have been announced with UK products making up a third (19) of the 59 selected entries, showing that British innovation and engineering continues to be at the forefront of the global industry.

The DAME Design Award has cemented itself as the world’s number one international design competition for new marine equipment and accessories. This recognition of British products and businesses highlights the outstanding contribution the UK continues to make to the global marine industry.

Out of the finalists, 18 of the entries come from member companies of British Marine. This includes the latest innovations from last year winners, Rooster and Harken, as well as special mention honorees, Scanstrut, Lumishore, Raymarine and Garmin. There were also selected products from two of last year’s nominees – Navico and Mercury Marine; a division of Brunswick and nominations for Exposure Lights, OceanLED, Dura Composites, LIGNIA Wood Company, Marlow Ropes, Dometic, CANtronik (Veethree Technologies) and Furuno.

Just reaching the final round is high praise indeed and recognition of a business which is leading the way in its respective field. The judging panel will now consider the nominees further against criteria which includes the expected impact on the marine industry, the level of innovation, ease of use or installation and environmental impact.

There are seven category winners to be chosen and one overall winner. They will be announced during the Breakfast Briefing on the opening day of the METSTRADE 2019, taking place 19-21 November 2019 at the Amsterdam RAI.

Lesley Robinson, British Marine CEO, said: “Once again British innovation and engineering is leading the way at the globally renowned DAME Design Award. To secure so many nominations year after year is a testament to how, as a nation, we challenge ourselves to constantly learn and improve. These UK companies and British Marine members especially are to be commended for their hard work and for ensuring we remain firmly at the forefront of the global marine industry.

“It is this innovation and craftmanship which sees the METSTRADE’s British Pavilion ranked both the second biggest and most visited country pavilion across the whole of the Show and a prime destination for visitors seeking the finest expertise and technology. This year we hope to welcome even more visitors, from both the UK and worldwide, to join us and our members in Hall 3.”
