Unprecedented Dry rebound led by the Capes; collapsing Wets amid Geopolitical chaos coupled with Covid’s uncertainty…
What a week that was with the Dry Market reaching …unprecedented levels after a long time; thank you St. George! Wets become a liability for all and Geopolitical Chaos coupled with Covid’s uncertainty will soon rock Planet Ocean. John Faraclas’ daily and weekly recap:
The BDI (Baltic Dry Index) was up 38 points since yesterday and now stands at 2,788; on a weekly basis the BDI was up 403 points (from 2,385 last Friday 16/04). The 2,400 to 2,700 points thresholds where conquered bringing euphoria to all with the driving force, being once again, the Capes.
The Capes’ BSI was up 115 points and now stands at 4,192 points. On a weekly basis the BCI was up 753 points smashing the 3,500 to 4,100 points threshold; what a boost eh!
The Panamaxes BPI lost 56 points and now reads 2,630. On a weekly basis and despite some hiccups the BPI was up 283 points – up from 2,347 getting over the 2,400 to 2,600 point thresholds… Wonder what’s next with Panamaxes.
Good performance by the Supras’ BSI now at 2,085 points – up 48 since yesterday and 236 since last week’s 1,849 points. Again we are witnessing advances which surpass the 1,900 to 2,000 points thresholds.
A positive outcome for the Handies BHSI now at 1,092 – plus 21 since yesterday and 86 points since last week’s 1,006 points.
All in all a promising Dry Market and let’s hope same retains these levels until the end of the year…
On the antipode the falling Wets; the last published BDTI (Dirties) and BCTI (Cleans) stood at 604 – minus one point and 484 – down five points respectively. On a weekly basis the Dirties were down just a point (from 605) and the Cleans down 55 (from 539) losing also the 500 points threshold… C A U T I O N!
The WTI was up 67 cents since yesterday standing at US$ 62.02; on a weekly basis same was down US$1.11 (from US$ 63.13 last Friday 16/04). Still an issue of CAUTION. We repeat: only with WTI at US$ 39.99 things can be viable; end of the story…
On the Geopolitical front:
Migrants still the number one issue and need to see how we contain same. The EU is not USA… The EU must get its act together as until now its policies – yes in plural, has been null and void! The incapacitated Turkophile German led EU in Brussels, although acknowledging the despicable Migrants policy and conversely the blackmail by Turkey’s president Erdogan, does nothing to pragmatically assist Greece, Cyprus from this unprecedented flow of Migrants which affect also Bulgaria, Malta and Italy as small boats and or coasters sail from Turkey to Malta and Italy. Equally, from still lawless Libya, we have many cases and above all human lives have been lost, particularly young children / babies. We repeat our position to save the day: “A Naval blockade (of the entire Anatolian Coast of Turkey as well as south in Turkey’s north east Med – same to apply for Libya), with a Mandate and Rules of Engagement”. As for the means (warships / OPV’s and air support, helicopters and planes), same to come from the EU or NATO, end of the story.-
The MoU between Libya and Turkey on EEZ etc etc must be thrown in the bin; António Guterres and UN’s behaviour on this issue is despicable…

At the other side of the Atlantic now: Joe Biden appears formidable in all fronts. His only task is to succeed and make America good again…- The situ with shootings increase in many states. George Floyd’s death proved a murder. CAUTION.
Nearby in Cuba, America’s hot spot, is now without a Castro… Miguel Diaz-Canel has to contain opposition; can he do it and if so for how long as people are not happy “anymore” with socialism… The end is nigh!

In Africa nothing changed. Chad lost his president Idriss Deb fighting rebels. Can his son Mahamat do the trick after the elections – in 18 months… Africa needs help in all fronts. Time to see not the film Out of Africa but “Inside Africa”
