It’s only Capes and Cleans. Enigmatic Geopolitics amid Covid’s uncertainty

The BDI (Baltic Dry Index) gained 22 points since yesterday and now reads 1,440 thanks to the Capes. Enigmatic Geopolitics  keep the fear of a messy outcome as  in the case of Ukraine, Boris Johnson tries hard and Covid still not contained. John Faraclas’ daily brief recap:

The Capes were up 89 points and the BCI now stand at 1,297…

Eleven points were further lost from the Panamaxes with the BPI now at 1,811…

A single digit loss for the Supras with the BSI at 1,578 – minus nine points…

Handies lost the 1,000 points threshold and now the BHSI reads 995 – minus eight…

A Capes Market – for the time being…

Wets up and down; the last published BDTI (Dirties) and BCTI (Cleans) stood at 685 – minus four and 583 plus 23 points respectively. Increased flights despite weather disruptions “paid” off…

The WTI as these line are written is up 13 cents since yesterday and now reads US4 88.28… CAUTION.-

In the Geopolitical arena the Ukrainian saga will leave its mark for many years to come. It’s all about reputations and in particular of national leaders whose reputation is often balanced on the knife edge of History. Putin wants to avoid Khrushchev’s Cuba fiasco in the 60’s at all costs; Boris Johnson too… In this explosive situation let’s see who has the lethal patience o win… Remain on Alert…

António Costa won Portugal’s parliamentary elections with an outright majority. The reasons were that the centre-right party was somehow without new ideas and too conservative for a society that wants to progress desperately. Its leader was also very contested and not consensual. Other parties in the right grew significantly, namely the liberal party and the far right party. The “usual” votes for the far-left parties actually moved to the socialist party, as a result of some years in coalition with the centre-left government. Moreover one of the reasons was that people were afraid of a coalition in the right politics which would bring the far right party into government or with an agreement to enable the government of the centre right party. I guess that this government will continue the policies of the socialist party which rely on huge spending and bad financial management, as shown in the last 50 years of Portuguese democracy…

Migrants continue their mess in Europe following Brussels’ despicable policies run by Germany’s ex Cancellor Mrs. Merkel; shame.-

Who can contain and then eliminate Covid-19 and all its mutations?

Have a nice evening and continue to remain on guard from actions emanating from Pirates, Terrorists, Criminals and any Business Hooligans whatsoever wherever you are on Planet Ocean.  Once again a big THANK YOU to all who really care for all humans – Doctors, Nurses, Seafarers, Dockers, Port Authorities et al during this Coronavirus disaster!! We repeat: Do please invest in Hospitals including Equipment, Doctors, Nurses and any useful means to avoid further disasters! Become more disciplined and care for the Environment too. Lastly: Education and Training for all to be able to tackle these disasters. Let us work collectively together and NOT opt for a fistful of Dollars to restart the already collapsed global economy… which is in red over US$ 350 (three hundredandfifty) trillion…
