ALL CHANGE: NEW PRIME MINISTER; NEW TRANSPORT SECRETARY
Almost exactly one year before the start of London International Shipping Week 2023 (LISW23), the newly elected Prime Minister of the UK and Northern Ireland, Liz Truss, has removed Secretary of State for Transport, Grant Shapps, from Cabinet and replaced him with Anne-Marie Trevelyan.
The new Secretary of State was a keynote speaker at the LISW21 Headline Conference, held at the International Maritime Organization (IMO) while still Minister of State for Business, Energy and Clean Growth, before she was appointed International Trade Secretary in then Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s Cabinet reshuffle in the same week in September 2021.
Current Shipping Minister Roberts Courts, who represented Grant Shapps at the LISW21 Gala Dinner and joined a large number of LISW events during the week, at time of writing is still in post, reporting to Anne-Marie Trevelyan.
Since the first edition of LISW, in September 2013, Transport Secretaries Sir Patrick McLoughlin, Chris Grayling and Grant Shapps have lent their full support to the event, while the list of Shipping Ministers joining one or more of the previous five editions of LISW includes Sir Stephen Hammond, Sir John Hayes, Sir Robert Goodwill and Nus Ghani, and most recently, Robert Courts.
