What a timely event that was by the Chios Marine Club events committee at the Angelicoussis Group – who offered their unique Auditorium earlier on this evening! A good turn out – nearly 100 attending, but a dozen or so missing same due to weather… and last minute demanding business obligations – shipping being renown for this!
After coffee and soft drinks, Captain Antonis Ch. Pitsilos warmly welcomed speakers and delegates with Nikolas Kakalis, Chios Marine Club’s Secretary Special and Lloyd’s Register Global Bulk Carriers Segment Director, being the panel’s moderator.

First speaker via Teams was Vassilis (Bill) Stamatopoulos, Global Business Development director at Bureau Veritas’ VeriFuel on “The role of biofuels in the new regulations landscape”. Interesting brief points were screened; well done!

Then come Theodore Kourbelis, Lloyd’s Register Key Account Director on “The role of biofuels in the new regulations landscape”. A formidable and well-prepared speaker.

Final speaker, the very eloquent John N. Cotzias, director Assets and S&P projects at Xclusiv Shipbrokers with well construed slides and controlled views on the future of Shipping and regulators, a pragmatist too. and what a theme: “CII impacts on Shipping Markets”
Pity for Theofanis Moustakatos, head of Shipping at the National Bank of Greece, who was going to deliver a speech on “Green Financing” that due to an illness could not make it. We wish him quick recovery and on another occasion, we will listen to his points on this interesting and very important issue.
Six questions followed and interventions involving the panel – within by Nikolas Kakalis, and the audience.
Geopolitics and Energy as well as funding and vested interests not to mention the Covid mess, were influencing the subjects discussed.
Worth mentioning that delegates attending come from all sectors of the Greek Shipping Cluster including the Military; a great achievement for Chios Marine Club!
A reception followed at the recreation / restaurant room with networking and discussion on the issues addressed during the event. Good to see youngsters attending and participating in the Q&A discussion.
Pleased to have Dimitris Fokas, head of training at Angelikousis Group contributing to the event.
We hope to have the speakers’ speeches and slides and hopefully in the update we will provide same.
Watch this space!
