Some 110 members, family and friends enjoyed great food, music and companionship, exchanging views on the recent Greek elections, the shipping markets, global geopolitics and certainly not forgetting plans for spending their holidays in the motherland on the islands of the Aegean and Ionian archipelagos.
This Summer’s BBQ on the 2nd of July at the Trailfinders Sports Club, Castle Bar, Vallis Way in London’s West Ealing, was in the tradition of a well-established event, the third main annual event of the Hellenic Engineers Society of Great Britain; the other two being the Annual Dinner and Dance at Park Lane’s Grosvenor House and the pre-Christmas dinner usually at the Real Greek.
The coming full moon on the 3rd of July, the famous Buck Moon which is also a super moon, helped a lot so no rain “managed” to intrude and spoil the day; indeed astrological phenomena do influence life and events…
With Covid almost controlled and “disappearing” from our lives, it was an excellent multi-national gathering with some faithful members managing to bring over many family and friends – notable support from the Amarantides, Konstantoulakis, Kounoupas, Ladas, Xenakis circles, and Dr. Stefanakis bringing her three young children; all greatly welcomed!
The quartet of musicians led once again by Marina – what a voice, eh!!! continue to make the difference and what a dance excitement that was!
Excellent food bringing Greece’s country-side (mainland and islands), to everybody’s mind; encouraging comments on the food came from some choosy so to say members – particularly from their wives!
Good to see that almost all sectors of the Shipping Industry were duly represented including state bodies, notably the officers from the Greek Shipping Office at Greece’s Embassy.
Many congratulations to the president of HESGB Dimitris Monioudis, his wife Camila and the events team for staging yet again a super event. Well done Evan and Kostas! See you next year.
