The event organiser, the CAF, is a leading charity operating in the UK and internationally; joint host was HIGGS -Higher Incubator Giving Growth & Sustainability – (with the Stavros Niarchos Foundation being its founding donor), supported by Transnational Giving Europe (TGE). The aim is to further transnational giving between the United Kingdom and Greece with the respective tools available. The event was under the auspices of the Embassy of Greece in London.
Philippine Vernes, senior international partnerships manager at CAF, introduced and moderated the event in which the two speakers; the eloquent Mark Greer from CAF and the enthusiastic Dr. Sotiris Petropoulos, co-founder of HIGGS, delivered fascinating presentations with well construed slides. He also explained in simple terms the charity/tax “equation” in Greece, an interesting case…
Nine widely differing questions from the 50-strong audience, were appropriately answered by the speakers – six were addressed to Dr. Petropoulos.
Ms Iphigenia Kanara, deputy head of the mission in the Greek Embassy was present as well as Stefanos Dimitriadis from the Press Office. Dimitris Kavouras, special advisor to the secretary general at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Greece was present in addition to representatives from UK charities including the Princes Trust and many others…
Charity is a noble cause for both nations; Greek shipping stands first on all counts and its important for the international public to see the charity development and success of the masters of the seven oceans hailing from a small nation such as Greece…
A lovely drinks and dips networking reception followed where we had the chance to meet old friends and make new ones!
